I struggled for a while with cold fingers until I decided to get a heated glove last season. Very good, but it broke and now I'm thinking about getting regular mittens instead.
Thinking about the Hestra Army Leather Extreme Mitt, according to Hestra, this is one of the warmest they have, but I noticed they don't use wool liner for this one, like the Philippe Raoux for example.
I don't have any store near me so I can try both, has anyone tried this Extreme one? Is it warmer than the regular ones with wool lining?

@AndreSilva, Mrs R&W has Raynauds and absolutely swears by them. You can buy the Wool Liners seperately if you need them, just go a size up on the gloves.

Nice to hear that!
But is it necessary to get the wool liner? Does she see much difference between the regular one and the wool one? As they claim this is one of the warmest one, I believe the liner in this glove is even warmer than the wool one?

@AndreSilva, Not necessary. But it all depends on how long you spend sitting on open lifts. Here in Austria with mostly heated seats, windshields and Gondolas there is less of a problem as the exposure time is lower. That said, she says they worked just as well in Canada last season in much lower temperatures.

@RedandWhiteFlachau, got it.
You said to go up 1 size... is that for all Hestras or for that model specifically? There's a shop nearby that has the Heli Ski Mitt, thought about going there to try and order the same size of the extreme online.

@clarky999, looks the same!
Well, I think I can't get anything warmer than that unless I go electric! Just need to find the right size to order online now

I'd definitely recommend Hestra for more extreme conditions, although I stick with the gloves, no mittens.
But most of the time, even when it's really cold, I use work gloves from the local Brico down in Abondance. Leather, lined, incredibly warm, the choice of glove most used by Lift operators and piste patrol.

Alpkit do a kind of version of those classic yellow French binman's glove that is a bit more technical, less industrial looking and not expensive. I got a couple of pairs. I think the secret is the pile lining. It wicks so much that if my hands get damp I stick them in the gloves and within minutes the moisture has been sucked away and my hands are bone dry. Generally dry is warm
These ones

@AndreSilva, Only one size up if you buy the additional Wool Liners.

To go warmer, look at expedition type down mitts - the ones which look like boxing gloves.

Do you reckon you'd get your hands through ski pole straps with those Expedition Mitts??

Good point.
My guess - tight, but doable - though probably annoying.

I‘ve had the Hestra mitts for years and recently upgraded to the wool liners which are a bit warmer. Still carry disposable hand warmers in the pack which get cracked open on the coldest days. Had a pair of Lenz heated gloves which were fine when they worked but the heating filaments only survived one season and they were quite expensive.

Hi, I have these, I am pretty sure but my kit is still in the attic.
They are good gloves but be aware:
The extra insulation is on the palm as well as the back of the hand so not ideal if you have to punt a lot, and it is fiddly to get your hand through the pole straps if that is the way you prefer to hold them.
I often need a pair of liner gloves to keep my hands warm with these.
If you have painfully cold hands then I would go for these as they had the most insulation of the gloves I tried on at the time, and since then I have not found any with more insulation.
Hope that helps.

I've a pair of the black diamond guide finger gloves which i find excellent. The wool liner is removeable which is a bonus

I bought these having seen the link, as I was looking at getting some for Hintertux when I go next weekend as forecast has been pretty cold, possibly too cold for my Hestra Fall Line glove.
They arrived today, feel very warm, will be interesting to see how they are out in Austria, if the weather is cold enough.

I have been happy with Hestra 3 fingers for many years but now they are old they are not good enough in minus 15 so I am thinking of the Extreme although they look bulky. I have Blaze heated liners which are OK when they work but my 2nd pair did not even last one week. I now have 4 Blaze batteries and wish there was a more reliable liner I could buy to make use of them?

I wanted to like and buy the Hestra Extremes, but that big seam between thumb and index finger feels odd. Went for Reusch Down Spirit instead. Super warm, too.

I was bought a pair of Rab khroma free ride gloves which are extremely warm and much warmer than my Hestra army patrol gloves though less dexterous.

The answer to this conundrum is to buy Leki trigger-s poles with straps which can be fitted over gloves and remain in place when unclipped from the poles.

I have the All Mountain C Zone Mitt and I love them. I also have the Army fingered gloves but I don't find them as warm.
I often tuck a hot-hands hand warmer into each mitt for extra warmth, though what I really like is the zipped pocket on the back which allows you to slide in the lift pass. No more ducking the body at the lift gates to try and make the barrier open, just wave your hand near the sensor. The other glove pocket usually holds my credit card.
