Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ortisei to Cortina for a night

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi. We're headed to the Dolomites in a week and staying in Ortisei (group's choice due to restaurants, access to Bolzano, since not all are skiers). We won't have a car. Last year we met some folks who skied over to Cortina for a night and stayed in a rifugio. Our group is intermediate to advanced, average speed types. Looking at the maps, I don't see how we could ski there. Perhaps they meant take the taxi to Lagazuoi and spend the night at the Rifugio Lagazuoi? Any suggestions would be welcome.
You all have provided so much great information, very much appreciated.

@DPL, you could ski to Armentarola then take the frequent bus/taxi service to Passo Falzarego (takes about 20 minutes, from memory costs about 6 Euros per person). Once there you could either stay at the Rifugio Lagazuoi as you suggest, or at the Rifugio Averau at the top of Cinque Torri.

To get as far as Cortina, you take the Skyline bubble from the bottom of cinque torri. It hasn't fully made it on to Google maps yet because it's quite new, but the lift stations are marked at either end. Rifugio Pomedes or Duca D'Aosta would be options there.

Did a mini-tour last year from Ortisei as follows:
Day 1 Ortisei to Lagazuoi - had a lunch at Lagazuoi before doing the Cinque Torri area (the Averau also looked worth a stay) and back up top to stay the night (highly recommended - but booking essential, we had a twin room and did the meal package - well worth it, and you get out onto the Hidden Valley Armenttarola run before the crowds) - The sauna at the top is worth it, as is the sunset and sunrise.
Day 2 Lagazuoi to Malga Ciapela - stayed in the valley to get first lift up the Marmaloda
Day 3 Return to Ortisei.

Defo worth the effort and you will easily do the miles in time - heading out on Saturday
