Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Giro Helmets

Ok so now I’ve realised that the only helmets that fit my big odd shaped egg are Giros, what would you say is the best Giro helmet that will not make my head look stupidly big yet be a safe, comfy fit?. I was looking at the Tor but to be honest it does look very large compared to the grid or the Owen models. Do all the models have slots to fit Bluetooth Alek type headphones I just bought for my carvs?. I like the look of the Owen the best but can’t find one in real life to look at and the ear pads don’t look promising for speakers and Giro haven’t responded to my question yet while im fast running out of postage time.

As a fellow member of the large head club (mines 63.5cm), I could always buy Giro helmets unseen knowing they would fit, but the newer spherical technology they use on their MTB helmets really don’t fit me. If you can’t find a Giro one, I can recommend that the Sweet Protection Ignitor II in XXL, which is a genuine large helmet, and fits me perfectly.

I can’t comment on the speaker compatibility of any of the helmets though.

I’m about 63-64 and I’ve got a smith vantage xxl 63-67 non mips at the moment which doesn’t fit it the correct position on my head. The giro mips i tried on fit well front to back and depth with a slight gap at the sides but at least it doesn’t look big but I was wondering if the spherical makes it fit smaller.

The sweet protection helmets just remind me of SS Stahlhelms and I just can’t get my head round that Laughing
