Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Châtel… Skiing / Snowshoeing / Town Thoughts?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Traveling with my pregnant wife and toddler. Throwing around the idea of skiing in France for a few days (just me obviously) and also snowshoeing as a family, exploring the town, etc. Châtel gets good reviews for culture, but trying to understand if the food options are on Piste like in Italy (if so can we take my son up the gondolas), is there any shorter snowshoeing treks, etc. Other recommendations besides Châtel?

Unless she's very pregnant, or has particular problems, it would easier for "wife" to ski than to look after a lively toddler. wink Make sure she has really good footwear, and "crampons" that she can put over walking boots if pavements and roads are icy and slippy. Falling on a hard surface like a pavement much more hazardous than falling over on a piste.

I've stayed in Chatel but not with a toddler, so there will be more educated people along I'm sure. My initial thought is that Chatel is a little hilly either side, and if I was very pregnant, I might not want to risk hills in slippery conditions. I guess that depends where you are staying.

Has Les Gets come up in any of your reviews? I mention it because it's got a few things to keep the toddler occupied, it's a flat village centre, there are restaurants at the top of the main gondola, and there's a public bus into Morzine where there's a swimming pool. It'll be my first choice for bringing my young kids next year.

There is a gondola ( Super Chatel ) that runs from Chatel village centre straight to the pistes and a restaurant called L’Escale that has inside and outside eating and drinking. Nice terrace with good views.
I think you can buy a day return ticket for your wife. Depending on your ability, there is quite a lot of skiing, all of which should allow you to only be 15 minutes away should your wife need you.

Les Gets is a good idea. The area at the top of the main gondola is a good one for pottering round with a toddler, and the skier can easily keep in touch and join for coffee, lunch etc.

BUT..... when are you going. Not advisable in UK/French school holidays.

Morzine. We have two small kids and have a teeny apartment at Nyon there. There are family friendly cafes (Colibri can have all my money) easy free bus, cable car 200m away from our front door to go up to skiing and a restaurant with a great terrace and a soft play. Swimming pool, playgrounds, waterfalls.
FOOD DELIVERY and a piste for snow etc 50m from our front door and youre on a winter walk/ snow shoe/ xcountry trail.
