Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski boots - hire or buy

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi, Ioften have an issue with shin pain in boots, referred to as ‘shinbang’ I have found on this forum!
I did have boots fitted and wore for 1 holiday and still had issues, but then didn’t ski for 7 years and last year the shin bang was awful. I ski 1-2 weeks a year, on piste and intermediate, red runs 90 % of the time. I am now between a few options to try and stop this issue;
1. Get new boots fitted - concern is they will need wearing in and hence will be uncomfortable for their first week
2. Stick with my own boots and concentrate on making sure they are tight from day 1 (from forum posts suggests my shin pain may be due to too much movement)
3. Hire boots - may be worn in and more comfortable. Whenever I used to hire wasn’t such a big issue, but maybe I was tougher

Any tips hugely appreciated as it got so bad last year I was considering converting to be a boarder Eh oh!

Where did you get your last boots fitted?

My suggestion is to bring your existing boots to a fitter that is recommended on here and see what they say...which may mean getting new boots.

If fitted correctly, new boots may feel a a little tight until they settle in. In both my case and my Daughter's case, there was no real discomfort when wearing boots for the first week...only difficulty taking them off and a feeling they were a touch tighter than ideal until the inner boots packed out a little. They then become really comfortable and don't need cranked shut.
