Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Canadian tax rebate

Does anyone know if you can reclaim taxes for purchases in Canada? Wife got new skis when out in Whistler and I'm sure you could do something at airport from our last visit. Asked a help desk at the airport there but the woman said it's online but she didn't sound too confident.

@boabski, it was a long time ago, but we definitely reclaimed for stuff on our last visit. You needed to do it before you left.

Afaik, tax rebates for visitors ended in 2007, although retailers are lobbying for the refunds to be reintroduced: https://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/major-retailers-call-for-tax-refund-for-international-tourists-1.6086806

Damn, I remember using them to great effect in early (millennial) visits, this explains why I didn’t use them during later visits.

I know it's not Canada (obviously!) but do remember that you can reclaim the 20pct Frrnch VAT on just about anything you buy that is not Consumed in France.

I've used an App called skiptax that was super easy to use, they take a few percent but do make the process so simple that to me it's worth it.

As Hells Bells, says you had to do it at the airport before you left and you didnt get all the tax back, as it was split, so only got the Gov. part back IIRC. Wasnt always worth the hassle tbh.

boabski, You did ask the store to knock off the demo cost, from the skis didnt you ? - usually worth more than the tax.
And really if making big purchases better to travel to Banff, and surrounding area, as the tax is much less Madeye-Smiley
