It's horrendous! The wind has been strong on and off all week, most lifts in the area are closed and all my outdoor furniture, plants and recycling boxes on the balcony are currently piled up under the kitchen window in an attempt to stop them taking off! The föhn headaches are real too.
We were supposed to be having a nice relaxing 3 days skiing elsewhere, but now I think we'll be lucky to get one (Monday) as the forecast for today and tomorrow is more 100km/h+ winds, which even if there are open lifts, is very unpleasant to ski in. A bubble (empty, thankfully) was blown off last summer too, so I can't say I'm desperate to get in one in this weather
At least we're not living in the house in Innsbruck that now has a tree in its roof.

@ster, definitely a couple of people on one of the chairs. You can see their skis. Luckily it's not swinging as much as some of the others but still terrifying for the people on it, I'm sure.

The chair looks to have covers which may increase their drag ?

Cervinia has a reputation for high winds at times.
Not sure of the situation here, maybe people needed to get up, so they could get down.
Very extreme conditions, almost Scottish....

I'm amazed ski resortsanahw to get everyone off and on huge mountains on often very hostile conditions.

We are in Mayhrofen, have skied 3 days and 3 days 90% of lifts shut, due to high wind so.walked instead. Did try 1 day in Kaltenbach when reduced lifts and way way to busy, 1 hr waits to get on the bottom lift, and too many people on the hill. Forecast is for Sunday.and Monday to be shut, never seen Mayhrofen so busy in the day

Was grumpy about not skiing this weekend until I saw the forecast. Currently sitting in a beer garden in shorts & t shirt, no Föhn headaches here

I had to go somewhere in Easter holiday for a quick snow trip, it was very hard to make a decision based on the weather reports. Wanted to go to Austria, but made decision to go to Tignes-Val`d. Was very satisfied with few lifts that where open on Saturday and would say that Sunday was almost good day with some sun even ;D

I guess its the lift company’s reason for being, get and keep the lifts running so they maybe push it a bit and skiers will always want them to run.
Another day lost here to the wind and rain.

But, though not cheap, at least the Austrians really know how to run a pool/spa for those bad weather days.

We came home yesterday from Innsbruck and the take off was interesting. Take off was in a huge cross wind, and the plane was getting buffeted all over the place, like a yo yo.... Haven't been on a flight b4 where engines are at take off speed for 30 mins, until we reached cruising speed and seat belt signs came off. Ster, u are right about Austrians running pool spas, we stayed at the Elisabeth in Mayhrofen, 2nd year in a row, fantastic food wine, rooms and great spa facilities would recommend. Also found out the storm is called Nelson which is my surname, and think we did OK, compared to a friend who was cruising the bay.of biscay, lisbon etc in 50 knot winds, which sounded terrifying. For those still in zillertal forecast looks good for the rest of the week, if vi's is OK I would recommend high runs in rastogel, and possible top of Kaltenbach..

I was considering Cervinia as an alternative to France (3V, Tignes etc) next Jan… Is this sort of thing hugely rare, or is there a likely risk of high winds causing havoc? I see cameronphillips2000 says above “Cervinia has a reputation for high winds at times.” Have other European resorts been subject to this sort of thing recently, or is it more likely at Cervinia? My only experience of Italian skiing was Gressoney Jan 2022 when lifts were closed for 3 days of the week due to wind… (We caught buses and train to Pila!). First World Problems, but I’d rather like my week on the snow to be somewhat calmer than the video above!

@musher, haven’t even got there yet. Went to Sportgastein today, it was pretty good considering the weather here of late. Will try to get to Hofgastein or Dorfgastein on one the days left. But warmth might be the enemy now, Salburg’s ment to hit 25C by the weekend.

Reports that the wind gusts reached 60mph. Glencoe’s Access Chair is still uploading at a fairly sustained 50mph!
Keep your bubble chairs away!
