Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Val Thorens to Les Menuires... flat terrain?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all, are there any runs from VT into LMen centre that are ok for intermediate boarders... i.e. not flat tracks were you have go full tilt from the top to get to the end... I've seen a vid of the run out of the bottom of VT to Cairn / bdCumin ? and it looks flat as hell in parts - is there a better/steeper way down to LM? cheers

@Chamonixsbust, you mean directly, without getting a lift?

If so, no there isn't.

Only direct way would be the Boulevard Cumin which you have just described as hell ... I think the first half is reasonable, the run only becomes flat / relatively flat after the Plan de l'Eau junction.

But this is also the route that I would normally take as we love the Boismint / Plan de l'Eau sector. You just need to gather enough momentum coming down the red, join the connecting path (be careful as it's easy to miss) to the Cumin and carry on. There is only one bit where you will invariably slow down and might have to scoot for 50 metres or so (but at that point you're 80% of the way back).

Would I describe it as hell ... of course, not. Try not to leave it until the very end of the day though as it might feel like you're on the M6 on a bank holiday.

There are other ways to get down to Les Menuires but these involve lifts etc.

I would have thought better to take lift up and drop down on run of your choice.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Yep, Lifts up to Mont de La Chambre, piste of same name into LM.

Yeah it's pretty flat below Plan de l'eau. Still ok if not sticky though but you'd probably want to be able to pump on a board.

A bit of a faff though particularly if you're trying to get back from the Caron / Grand Fond side ....

You only need 2 lifts - Plein Sud chair (or Pionniers chair) and either of the 3 Vallees lifts (gondola or chair). Very Happy

I know ... but you'd be 3/4 of the way down to Les Menuires by the time you've navigated the Plein Sud queue ...

And the OP might only have a Les Menuires pass. If you're on a Les Men pass then the only way back from VT (E.g. after the Folie Douce) is Cumin? If they've got a 3V pass then there are lots of options via Mont de la Chambre.

@snowhound, no you can go up 3 Vallees and ski down from there as mentioned above.

I've stayed in Les Men a few times and I don't think I've ever used Cumin.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Not if s/he doesn't have a ski pass that covers VT. I hadn't thought of that until it was mentioned by snowhound.

 You know it makes sense.

@Bergmeister, ah, apols to snowhound - I'd forgotten you can get a Les Men/St Martin only pass.

But if you had one of those you just wouldn't ski down into Val T would you, what would be the point - you couldn't get a lift anywhere?

Sorry for my delayed response (, log in problems )- firstly, thanks for all the replies , this forum nerve fails to deliver, so much knowledge and detail. Eh oh! Eh oh! .

To those who asked, we’ll have a full area pass and we are staying in VT so it was really just to see if the bdCairn was as bad as the vid clip I’d seen..

I’ve got an extendable go pro pole so maybe I’ll take that to help me paddle along the flat bid . Very Happy
