Poster: A snowHead
|
Hello! We are heading to Whistler in April (9th-16th) as a family of four and although we CANNOT WAIT, we are slightly horrified by the ski school prices which are coming in, for our two kids (ages 4 and 6), at CAD1,850 for three days (with the Epic discount which my wife and I have should qualify for through advance purchase of an Epic ski pass).
Are there any other options for lessons? And does the Resort ever put lessons on sale, particularly towards the end of the season, given fewer people/unreliable snow conditions?
We are reluctant to spend so much, especially so far in advance, plus both kids can ski a very small amount).
Any help and input on our predicament is much appreciated

@Hills1984,
Is that for private lessons?
Though it doesn't help much, as a comparison my kids ski with probably the best coaches on the mountain, 40-odd days including a season pass for about 3000-ish each.
Whistler used to do sales on lessons for certain weeks pre vail, but not sure they do anymore.
Snow conditions are not especially unreliable in April. In fact if you compare it to the season so far, then probably pretty good.
Mostly in April it seems things are quiet not necessarily because of the snow, but because people are itching to crack the bikes out.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks Stuarth - I should have said the cost was for group lessons! It seems post Vail most things have gone up in price. I imagine with the whole mountain being owned by Vail we have no other options?
Encouraging to hear April might be better for snow, we’re keeping our fingers crossed!

@Hills1984, lesson prices there are mad! An instructor I met back in the Autumn said a full day private with him is around $1400/1500 and he earns $300/400
Unfortunately unlike Europe, you're stuck paying whatever prices the hill charges as Vail own the whole thing and you can't just teach there as an independent instructor.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.
