Poster: A snowHead
|
We’ve stayed in St Anton once before and had our car so drove to Lech and got the chair lift straight to the slopes. We are visiting over NYE and don’t have a car so interested to find out how easy (or not!) it is to ski to Lech from St Anton.
Is it straightforward and will we have time to have lunch in Lech etc. We lived in Munich and skied regularly so all capable skiers.
Thanks in advance?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Very easy to do, with time for lunch. Have a look at the piste map.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@ktrusler, It depends on the snow conditions. Assuming the Madloch run to Zug is open then it is pretty straight forward, ski to Alpe Rauz from St Anton (best option is to go to the top of Schindler and ski all the way down, or from Galzig to the Valfagehrbahn chair), take the Flexenbahn to get to Zürs and then up to Madloch. If Madloch is closed, as it can be early season, there is a 10 minute shuttle between Zürs and Lech.
Personally I get the bus (about 08:40) from St Anton train station to Zürs, this gets you to Zürs before the hordes, the runs on the west side of the road (Madloch side) are usually very good first thing as they catch the morning sun. Avoids the inevitable long queue, pushing & shoving to get on the lift to Galzig.
To get back take the cable cars to Rufikopf and work your way back to Zürs and the Flexenbahn.
No issue having time for a leisurely lunch in Lech. If you get distracted by the shopping (or whatever) there are plenty of postbuses back until around 19:00

If you go first lifts, the run down to raus and then flexen lift to zurs can be fun and empty.... but cold.... cold cold.
Between 9 and 11 on a nice day it is a busy motorway because of the new lift from Raus to Zurs.
As above, i also prefer to take the bus/taxi to zurs and ski over to lech, or bus/taxi to lech - ski the area, lunch and ski back with the crowds later to st anton.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@ktrusler, Indeed you will have to wait and see if Madloch is open. It quite often is not during Christmas/NYE.

You'll need to Register first of course.

It all depends on what floats your boat. If you enjoy "on piste ski touring", then ski over and follow @hsdee suggestions. If you want to maximise your time in Zürs/Lech, then go with @munich_irish. We, almost always ski over, hitting first lifts over to Rauz. Great cruising, but as @hsdee says, it can be cold!
If there are decent snowfalls preceding NYE, then Madloch - Zug should be open, but not so on a leaner year.
