Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

20th April - too late even for Val Thorens?

 Poster: A snowHead

Pretty much as it says. Potentially very restricted for dates next year, so looking at a very late trip.

Typically, how is VT that late in the season? Happy with usual spring like conditions, but concerned that a bunch of the resort will be unskiable.

Am i wrong to even consider this? Went to Val Cenis this year, but we a little earlier (1st - 8th April), and lucked out with very decent conditions considering the timing.

Other places to consider? Mainly cruising on piste for reference.

Cheers

There's usually about 50% (or more) of Tignes/Val D'Isere open at that time of year.

You could expect wintry conditions on the glaciers/at altitude, through to soft/spring snow lower down. Skiing down to Val D'Isere (1800m) and Tignes Les Brevieres (1500m) will normally be possible - soft on a morning to slushfest later on.

Also 21st April...the gist is, late April is often good in VT. Yes it's generally rock hard in the morning, yes it gets soft lower down in the afternoon, yes you want to generally stay above town, but there will be stuff to ski.

VT is the highest resort in Europe.

If you can't ski Apr there, you can't ski it anywhere.

I can't speak to quite that late in April but we have visited VT at Easter (tied to school holidays) for the the last few years, early and mid April, and it's always been wonderful. Yes, conditions get stickier as you go lower to St Martin/Les Menuires but I figure it's good to gain experience in different conditions and we always enjoy ourselves. We often have better conditions at VT in Easter than Feb half term elsewhere....

Thanks all, pretty much thought that was the case, but always good to check, especially as it is likely to be the only trip this season.
