Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

This was recently discussed on rec.skiing.snowboard. The consensus there seemed to be that it was, at best, a daft idea.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Playdreamer..........seen any other "dodgy" graphics on decks recently??? The 2004 Capita ones have to be the most amusing.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Philip Prior, I didn't pay much attention to the graphics, I was more interested in the "Triple Base concept".
When it comes to graphics I have always fancied a Donek as you can customise it.

Never heard of Donek! That must be a US guarded secret.

I have never ridden one but they are very highly rated. If you are not quite sure what you want in a board you can ring them up, discuss your requirements, get recommendations and have them make a custom board for you.

Mmmm. 3D base? Sounds odd indeed. I think I would prefer the absolute control with a flat base board than having to use the edges more than usual. Having to edge more than usual to get a braking edge would put the board into a sharper turn than necessary. So you would still overbrake??? It would be quicker but a bit wobbly at high speed? not convinced. Proof, as always, in the pudding.

Philip Prior, www.donek.com
Saw a similar thread a while ago somewhere but can't remember where.............got no idea of the engineering as to why it shouldn't be a good idea, most peoples opinions seemed to be negative but with no real justification or trying it (......a bit like people's ideas that Flow & step in bindings are rubbish!!!). The website is very slick with lots of information. I guess it's a new way of doing things and people are very wary of doing that, the only real way would be to try it. I'd give it a go if it was available at a demo.

mmm...not convinced by the techno waffle but the things some of the guys are doing in the pics are pretty impressive and so the boards cannot be complete turkeys - then again, they could probably do more on a tea tray than i can do on my 'normal' board. and most of the pics seem to be of tricks and so the board isn't actually in contact with anything.
As with Dan, i'd give one a go before reaching a firm view either way, but the idea of a short flat middle section making the board more stable doesn't seem quite right to me.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Dan/Phil/Tony, I bought a Donek about 3 years ago.
I'm very pleased with it. It's very stiff and quite difficult to get used to though.
But the stiffness gives it great stability.
If you're in Solden next Feb you are welcome to try it.

stephen bleakley, cheers stephen - how did you hear about them? i've got no idea what i'd ask for if i did go for a specialised board. I've ridden a few mates boards etc over the last couple of years i've boarded, but i've never really noticed a difference??? I'm sure there is but being one that just flies down pistes and the odd bit of off piste in the relative safety of being able to see the piste still i've not noticed it. I want to start learning some tricks other than basic ollies and 180's (slowly) on the move..........maybe i'll notice some differences. The only problem is how do you learn, i don't know anyone better than me that can do tricks????
