HI All
Looking for some advice from Austrian regular. For the past few years we have been to Italy but this year want to revisit Austria. Group of 8 or so adults and teens. Problem is we can't do a full week and want to do 4 nights max 5 at the beginning of March - travelling out 7th or 8th maybe but flexible. Anyone know of a hotel/B&B who would take a booking for less than 6 night - booking.com never has anything without being exhorbitant! Emailing all the hotels could take for ever so looking to narrow the list. Thinking of St. Anton or Sallbach/Hinterglemm.
Any advice would be great!

@Simone, a lot of the tourist office websites are pretty accurate or could at least narrow down your options to then email directly. www.saalbach.com/en for example throws up a few results for 4 nights from 7th (I used 3,3,2 as the allocation of your 8 persons). Tinkering with dates and rooms might find you something there. I would expect that departing or arriving on a saturday before or after your 4/5 nights would give the best results but might not be possible for you

Try a PM to tatmanstours - top right, Send/Read Messages. He has accommodation in Saalbach and lots of contacts

@SimoneAs noted above for most Austrian resorts the best place to find accommodation is the relevant tourist office website. I would be pretty sure you will find somewhere but you might be shocked at the cost, prices in St Anton have risen considerably in recent years.

Try Airbnb. Most hotels will want to sell a week duration, so far out. They don’t like short stays. Ok they’ll happily take a booking for 5 nights but will charge you for 7, although your dates for a long weekend impact their ability to sell part weeks because it’s cuts into 2 weeks. Think you’ll struggle unless you leave it really late and don’t mind being split up. Try staying out of resort in a business hotel and bus/ train into resort? Perhaps Feldkirch or Landeck?

@drporat, no availability there either, they’ll not take a long weekend booking so far out so many people. A couple maybe but not 8 people, and only if you know the hotel owners in my experience.
My suggestion to OP is go sat/ sat and be prepared pay for 7 days if only want 5 if you wish to leave Thursday or stay down the valley in a neighbouring town that is not a ski hotel but takes business bookings, plenty within striking distance of say st anton. Or stay in Innsbruck, that’s not be an issue, fast railjet train to different resorts daily and nordkette on the doorstep. Money saved on room pays for daily travel.

@Markymark29, my searches were for couples indeed.
As usually you are correct re: your suggestions.

@Markymark29, you're right in general. But, I'm having the impression especially this year something is moving. Most striking I find the current availability (in Lech) during Christmas...
It looks like the stunning price-rises are changing things. And maybe the babyboomers are starting to pass on skiing...
We too have decided to pass on our 15 years-stammhotel in Lech...has become too expensive

@Langerzug, us too, not staying in Lech or St Anton, prices are crazy. We’re staying in Schnann.

You know it makes sense.

@Markymark29, we are looking at Drei Zinnen (Süd Tirol, Italy). Change of scenery!

Try Pettnau or Schnann.

What is the skibus situation from/to Schann?
A few years ago a mate rented from Mietski in Pettnau. We took the bus from St. Anton, had to wait (early afternoon) and paid 4/5€ each.

@drporat, Pettneu is just as easy as most places in St Anton itself, there is the cheapish ski hire spot too. There are regular buses to/from Schnann but not so much in the evening and the options for going out are very limited in the village itself whereas Pettneu has a reasonable selection of places to eat & drink. Prices have got pretty stupid in recent years

@drporat, Schnann fast ski bus very regular until 7pm, We’re not going far after that in mid January! Excellent bakery and one hotel, other than that not much to do in fairness but can drive up to Pettneu for a takeaway and eat in once stocked up at MPreis, what’s not to like……dark skies and quiet! We’ve booked 9 nights in a cool Airbnb apartment, just behind the church (liking church noise btw) fraction of prices in St Anton. Happy days.
