If you are a British disabled skier and try to apply for a discounted disabled lift pass from Les Carroz, don't bother, seems they will only accept French disability orange cards. A British VI skier with a certificate of visual impairment indicating severely sight impaired was refused with a statement "your disability documents don't apply / count" so it means have to pay full price twice to ski as can't ski without a guide, who will need a pass as well.

Do you have a blue badge? That's what I use in la plagne and val thorens and is accepted there so maybe worth trying that?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

You can also ask your GP /doctor for a letter stating the disability and that the skier needs a guide at all times

lExcuse me. Why should they get a discount? They are using the same facilities as anyone else. If they are there skiing, then they obviously have the where withall to pay?

Errrr.... because they have to have a guide, so need to buy 2 lift passes. This is acknowledged by Les Carroz (who are otherwise sypathetic) but they won't accept UK evidence of disability.
It's a bit like football matches, where some clubs offer a free ticket to a carer who accompanies a wheelchair user. They watch the same match as me but I don't begrudge the carer getting in for free.
Kids use the same lifts as all of us but seem to pay less as well. Maybe there should be no discount for them either...

Now people will know I only have one eye but I’ve been like this for 40 years. However when it initially happened I had to be partially blind in my “good” eye.
It is not a nice thing but I appreciate that someone who has impairment in both eyes really really needs assistance.

As a sit skier there are often a number of lifts they do not allow sit skis on (for a variety of reasons) so we can't access all the mountain. It is also French rules that we must be accompanied on the slopes/lifts therefore we shouldn't be punished for having to pay twice effectively for us to access the mountains as we can't go solo.
It's to try and make the mountains more accessible to people who need assistance on the slopes by lessening the financial barrier and reflect they may not be able to access all the mountain through no choice of their own.
If you are guiding someone it is very tiring emotionally and physically to be someone else's eyes. It is no "holiday" for someone guiding so you are requiring someone to give their time so you would cover the cost of their lift pass to say thank you so you can ski hence why the 50% is so valuable to many.
Whilst it may seem like we get a lucky perk of a discounted lift pass, having a disability is not something we would chose or not having the ability to access the mountain whenever or wherever we want is not a perk!

Are you serious or were you drunk when wrote this? Perhaps they should double price of tickets for kids and seniors because they often require more attention from other users.

Assisted or adaptive skiers sometimes need a helping hand. Two become one. It's not fair to charge twice for that. It's fair to pay less.
Junior and senior riders ski less than adults. They have less energy. It's fair to pay less.
And it's wherewithal.

Thank you for all the replies, apart from the obvious one, but as a disabled person you get attitudes like that all the time its normal and just a fact of life.
We enquired a little more about not recognising the CVI certificate and got this back
"We must have a proof from an official administration.
We cannot take into account a document from a doctor."
So they don't call the CVI certificate issued by UK authorities an official document even though it has to be certified by a consultant ophthalmologist registered with the GMC.

I would ask to speak to manager. PIP award letter. I can’t believe if you walk in there with blue badge pip letter and a letter from your specialist they won’t do it. If they continue to be difficult suggest that by accepting only french documents they are breaching eu equality legislation. I’m genuinely shocked they are making it so difficult.
