I've been looking at touring skis and freeski boots on https://www.pocskishop.com/
The address on their contact page is
77 Arundel Gate
Sheffield , United Kingdom (UK)
S7B 1YJ
All the skis and boots are under £100, which seems too good to be true, which normally means it is. All sizes in stock!
SO
either we should all be buying our new gear from them
OR
Everyone should be warned that it is a scam
SO
Has anyone ever ordered from them?
OR
Anyone in Sheffield want to check and see if they exist at that address and if they have all that stock.
OPENING HOURS
Mon to Fri: 10am – 6pm
Saturday: 8am – 6pm
Sunday: 9am – 5pm

Well the fact they're postcode doesn't exist doesn't inspire confidence. At best they can't type...

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

There are lots of sites like this that have sprung up recently. They offer in demand brand names, e.g. POC, Black Crows etc with a discount. The prices don't often make sense, e.g. for the Poc Ski Shop look at the boot prices.
These sites are there to harvest credit card and other personal details. If you do accidentally order from one then cancel your credit card and seek a replacement from the issuer.
This is becoming increasingly common nowadays sadly.

Arundel Gate would all be an S1 postcode. The odd number side of Arundel Gate is mostly Sheffield Hallam Uni buildings. Definitely your 3rd option.

That one won't even open in my browser - no SSL cert, I'd guess.
The domain looks fraudulent, I reported that to their domain provider so it'll maybe die soon. Until they open another one.

I assume they harvest your numbers because you type them into a scam site. Then they buy stuff with your card...
- Except you have an app and your card says "please approve this payment", and you say: "nope". They could snaffle your phone number and try to scam you through that too, but without your phone itself, they're still struggling I think.
- Maybe they buy stuff where there's no 3D Secure. Except if they're shipping to an address which isn't yours... that's not going to work.
- Buy stuff where there's no 3D Secure and which is online, like a game or some porn or some such. In that case your phone would ping when they bought the stuff, and you could take action at that point to reverse the payment. Maybe this is the main vector, because if you don't take action, you could maybe not notice until your next bill, and if you don't reconcile your bills... maybe they could get away with it for a while.
I'm not sure this is such a great game for the scammers.
Has anyone been scammed like this, and if so, how does it work, precisely?

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I work right next to Arundel Gate, never seen a ski shop. I park right next to where 77 Arundel Gate is, there's a big new ish appt block on one side of road and all Sheff Hallam Uni on the other.

worth changing the title from "is it real" to "scam alert"?
|
|
|
|
|
You know it makes sense.
|
I've changed the title the SCAM ALERT, as it seems we are agreed that is what this is.
DO NOT BY ANYTHING FROM THIS SITE
I guess the scam is simply that hundreds of people order gear that will never arrive because there is no shop and no stock. It is a bogus website, but looks very convincing.
Eventually it will be shut down but not before lots of people have lost lots of money.

Having been on Arundel Gate a few hours ago, I can safely say I did not see a ski shop.
