Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Insurance car hire Canada

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello,

I am going to Canada and we will be hiring a car. In Europe:
1. Insurance is included, except for an excess
2. I can buy excess insurance

In Canada, when I book the car hire online, it doesn’t seem to be included. I think lots of Canadians and Americans have it included with their credit cards

How do I book a car including insurance?

Is there excess insurance for Canada?

Thanks

Max

Have a look at booking through Canadian Affair - they include the highest level of insurance and are really good value. Have used them a couple of times and had no issues

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

MaxiD, Also try rentalcars - decent rates too on a par with Canadian Affair who usually use Avis( they limit the mileage ) - insurances are included apart from excess. Hired through them many times in USA and Canada never a problem and always been the best rate

You can get excess insurance seperately if you wish - we've never taken it and never needed it. We usually drive around 1500 - 2000 miles per trip Madeye-Smiley

I've just done a summer trip (Calgary -> Vancouver) and booked with Canadian Affair.
Car was provided by Avis, got an upgrade (due to unavailability of the level of car I'd requested) for free.
Mileage wasn't limited for my booking, but I DID pay extra to drop the car at a different airport from the one I picked up from (although... amusingly... the car ended up where it was originally registered many months ago!).

You'll need to Register first of course.

All car hires includes basic (law mandated) liability insurance. You can also pay extra for excess coverage at the point of hire. Probably more economical if your own insurance covers that though.

You can also buy “damage waiver” at the point of hire. It’s on the pricy side. But it will alleviate insurance need for damage to the car.

The OP doesn’t think so?

Better address his concern than to argue with someone else’s opinion.

Wasnt arguing just stating a fact- Car hire deals are different for international travellers rather than NA domestic.

on Canadian Affair and other rental sites it states this is included - you can also purchase excess insurance from them, or another source, which is often cheaper.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I would look for a top up policy rather than buy from car hire specialists here. There a a few if you google

+1 for Canadian Affair.
Everything is included and its the best deal by a longway.
They gave us a Chevy Tahoe (Monster SUV with all the bells and whistles) for 10 days for aboy £650 two years ago.
The insurance covered three drivers perhaps more.

On another trip a few years ago we came back to the airport with a cracked windscreen and check in people said, "your OK, Canadian Affair cover everything."

But check the small print of course. Things can change.

Not always the case - booked car hire for next season last week

Rentalcars.com - standard size SUV, additional drivers + tank of fuel and GPS ( wont need it but a reason for it Wink ) unlimited milage total £1090

Canadian Affair - the same vehicle and inclusions limited to 200km a day, which might not be enough - £1345

That difference will probably cover all the fuel used - all insurances covered apart from excess insurance. Never bothered with it and in 20 years or so hiring in North America never needed it

Last trip over there they gave us a Ford Expedition as an upgrade, with 20 miles on it Toofy Grin

So it can pay to shop around Madeye-Smiley
