Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Using UK boot driers in Canada

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Does anyone know what device I need to use my UK voltage boot driers in Canada. Took the driers this year and were next to useless. I've looked at a step down convertor on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Step-Down-Converter-230-110v-100W/dp/B000L99ZJ2/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?crid=2X6MT2IUG4VAC&keywords=step+down+transformer+240v+to+110v&qid=1695202151&sprefix=step+down+%2Caps%2C140&sr=8-12&tag=amz07b-21 but I'm not convinced this is what I'm after.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please? Just need something to give more power when using the boot driers in Canada. Thanks in advance

You'd want a step up transformer, 110 in 230 out:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/BESTEK-Adaptor-Transformer-Converter-Carrying-Grey/dp/B071HPD1BQ/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=Step%2BUp%2BVoltage%2BConverter&qid=1695206236&sr=8-5&th=1&tag=amz07b-21

But it will depend a bit on what dryer you are using and how many watts it is.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

That ^ is the wrong direction - you'll need a step up, that takes the 110V supply and provides 240V for you to use. It will have a UK style plug that your device can plug in to.

But what is the power requirement of your boots? Not the voltage - it will either be power in W or possibly VA (Volt-Amps), or they may specify a current in A instead.

Thanks folks. It's thermic boot dryers that I use. 230v and 50W. Does that change things?

Or one like this, which can be used either as step up or step down (make sure you select the correct input voltage at the rear of the unit). It's rated at 300W continuous. However it's a fair size and weighs 2.46kg, so hope it fits in your baggage allowance! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Yinleader-500W-Voltage-Transformer-Volts/dp/B08RYS661L/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?adgrpid=52579723149&hvadid=259163315494&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=1006821&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=15523450791763955151&hvtargid=kwd-306368349519&hydadcr=18221_1817005&keywords=110v+to+220v+transformer&qid=1695206709&sr=8-4&tag=amz07b-21

Edit: although for your application the one linked to by @Adam9 should do the job. It's rated at 200W, and in spite of the confusing text at the top which says under product details input voltage 240V that appears to be the maximum input voltage, further down the page under specification it says:

Input Voltage: 100~240V AC, 60/50Hz
AC Output: 220~240V/AC, 47~53Hz

And it is smaller and only weighs 0.5kg.

No that's fairly low wattage, just aim for something ~100w or more which will be almost all of them.

True, but if you half the voltage into the heater you half the power.

Actually as the power is (V squared)/R if you half the voltage the power is reduced to a quarter!
