Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Replacement of Jandri lift at Les Deux Alpes

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
There's a recent video (in French) discussing the new 3S replacement lift for the old Jandri lift. If my French is correct I think the guy says that the Jandri lift was installed in 1985? Anyway I'm sure the new lift will be an improvement, and doubtless there'll be a few old Jandri white 'eggs' being sold off so anyone local can buy one and stick it in their garden. Laughing

Yes 1985 although that's nothing. The chairlift from mont de lans to L2A was built in 1969, the same year as the moon landing!!!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@Alastair Pink,
Maybe after this seasons accident it has to be replaced. IIRC a guy window gave way after tomfoolery & a bloke fell out.
Was there a few years ago & the egg just would not close properly. Think should have been condemned years ago.
I would love a gondola as a home office type of thing - but I think a caravan parked on the drive would be more practical.

Actually the skiing there is very good and wth the whole climate change debate a lot of investment is going to go there instead of king Canute like attempts to keep the portes du soleil and other low resorts open. Also it's not full of braying sloanes which works for me!

Some new photos of the work so far from the remontées mécaniques site…..

They are using the same company who did the concrete work on the Club Med in resort as they don’t hang about!
Around 100 workers sleep at the mid station 6 days a week for 6 months.
Only 5 % of said workforce are French!
The gondolas will hold around 30 people.

I learnt the translation of the French word "normalement" when I asked the same question about a new lift. "Normalement c'est pour Noel" I was told. Which didn't mean "normally" it would be finished by Christmas, as "normally" makes no sense in English for an once-and-for-all happening. What it means in that context is "We hope, but you never know, so please don't hold us to it".

In the sense of "usually" the word would be "d'habitude".

"Normalement" accompanied by a shrug is very expressive....... don't hold your breath.

I did a season here in 99/2000. At the time there were the Red eggs (Belle Etoile) and the white eggs (Diable) and the Jandri.

Am I right in reading on skiresort.info that the red and white eggs have only just been replaced last year? If so that is crazy! They felt like death traps 20 years ago. Good for smoking in though.

I fondly remember a day where I managed to get in the very first Jandi of the day with my mate and a couple of pisteurs. It was VERY windy and snowing a lot. We got all the way up to about 30m outside of the top of Jandri 2 before the lift stopped for about 15 minutes. In my memory it felt like the gondola was blowing to about 20-30 degrees but I'm sure it can't actually have been that much. When we finally got out we were told that they had closed the lift.

We pushed through chest high snow drifts to get to the top of the run and then proceeded to blast all the way down in a complete white out. Didn't matter as there had been no bashing and it was knee deep powder.
