My buddy’s daughter competed in the women's elite DH. (Abby Hogie). Didn’t qualify for the semis unfortunately, but it was a great weekend.

@harrim51, …making a hell of a lot of noise. No precise idea when it started. Chainsaws were a feature of early DH races, since you had to make the course yourself for the one day of (usually Sunday) mayhem. I think it started from there. Noise production is quite competitive at DH events….
…cowbells provide loud clanging but plenty of the deafening ringing comes from bike rims being bashed with spanners. And alongside that, air horns blast, handlebars get played like trumpets (always the same note from everyone, since they are 22.22mm end diameter), and then there’s the shouting. Yeeees Beooooy… is common for male and female riders as they pass…..
And if anyone says ‘back protectors are overkill’ then try hitting the deck whilst DH-ing…

Ah, happy days. I remember when I was young and unbreakable and descending fearlessly down Jacob’s Ladder on my mountain bike. front wheel dug in on a boulder field, just managed to pull it up and out before I went over the bars. What an adrenalin rush! Now I am older and wiser and have the scars to prove it…
