Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Morzine-Les Gets, Avoriaz or PDS Lift Pass

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
My brother and I will be staying in Morzine 12-15 Jan but will only have 2 days to snowboard. This is our first ski trip but we have been learning in CFe in Manchester for some months, going for a couple of hours once a week for a few months. We can get down the slope easy enough with minimal falls now and can manage some of the easier features. I assume we're somewhere in between beginners and intermediates.

What lift pass would you suggest given our inexperience on the mountain, the limited (only 2 days, Sat&Sun) we'll have. A weekend pass for both Avoriaz and Morzine Les Gets works out around 69Euros but full PDS is around 122Euros.

Any advice is appreciated! TIA

Given your experience level and the length of time you'll be there, a full PDS pass would be a complete waste of money.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

You can have a Morzine-Les Gets for 68€ or an Avoriaz only or a PDS full.

I’d take the Morzine Les Gets - plenty for newbie boarders there. Unless you want to go an watch the Park/ have a go in which case get an Avoriaz weekend pass.

If an Avoriaz pass is the same price as a Les Gets pass personally I’d go for Avoriaz - if you’re going next weekend the weather looks great high up and there’s some great, wide blue runs down into Lindarets, and the big easy run down Proclou to get used to things.

@andy from embsay, but getting there via Supermorzine on a board is a bit dull or its buses.

Just thinking as the OP’s never been outdoors before Proclou (and the green run down to it) would be a good start (more than anything you can access from Pleney from memory?).

+1 about the green run to Proclou. It’s wide, very forgiving and more or less straight. Remember … managing to board the main slope at the Chill Factore is incomparable to a run (no matter how flat and easy) on a real mountain. Nevermind, using a chair for the first time. I would definitely urge you to consider a 2-3 hour private lesson. It will be time and money well spent.

While Proclou's a great beginner run in the Avoriaz area the OP said they are staying in Morzine and getting to Avoriaz would mean either taking the bus to either Ardent or Prodains, or the Super-Morzine and skiing the Seraussaix run - which is about the worst place to take a beginner boarder!

@FragileCart, with only 2 days just get a Morzine-Les Gets pass. Easy to get to from Morzine, just jump on the Pleney gondola, and more than enough ski area for you to play in for 2 days at your current level.

Get just Morzine Les Gets. Plenty to keep you busy. It’s what I did my first two days on skis and spent most of it on Piste B!
I am also a bit anti Proclou because it can be very busy. A race kid took my mate out on there and she had a nasty injury. Granted it can happen anywhere but they do seem to like lapping that at speed.
