Poster: A snowHead

Hi everyone, I'm new here! I'm organizing a big trip with my friends for this winter to Meribel, and we are staying at a place that is a bit outside of Meribel Village, so we will need to have a car as there is no ski bus stop close by. Does anyone know what it's like driving and parking at the lifts in the Meribel area or 3 Valees resorts in general? Is it a nightmare to find parking (meaning we should stay somewhere more central or closer to a skibus stop), or is it generally OK?

It will be fine if the weather is good, overnight snow and you might find it problematic as the spaces will need clearing. Finding a new space every day will be a problem on some days, unless you book covered parking in resort. However, some days the roads may be impassable.
Stay in Brides les Bains and take the bubble car to Meribel every morning, or drive down to Brides les Bains if you are finding parking or driving into Meribel a problem. Plenty of parking in Brides les Bains.

Driving and parking at either Meribel village or Raffort and getting the lift from there is usually easy to get a space and free. Drive to Meribel Centre and you will need to pay about 12 Euros a day to easily get a space.

Very helpful to know, thank you! I guess we will probably try to book parking if it’s super busy, which I’m guessing it will be around the new year period.

Yeah Meribel village might be an option as well since I think that’s closest to the accommodation, and then we can take the lifts up and ski down to Meribel Centre if we don’t want to take the bus to Meribel Centre.

@rarehoneydew, which chalet or apartment block are you in?
Unusual for places to not have some way to the lifts without driving somewhere like that.
Have they specifically stated you will need a car?

I could have sworn when I was mooching around the valley a couple of summers' ago that they'd put a pay and display machine in the Meribel Village car park. It wasn't in use because they don't charge in summer but I distinctly remember thinking, "Oh, there's another free car park gone".
Have I got that wrong or did they decide not to enforce it in the end for winter and keep the car park free?

Are you staying in Plantin? I cannot think of anywhere else that fits that description that wouldn't be in walking distance of the Golf chairlift at Meribel Village.

The car park in the centre of Meribel is incredibly convenient as you come out right in the middle of the lifts and next to the ticket office - yes probably a bit pricey but maybe worth it between you and your friends?

Yeah, they specifically said a car is required in the winter.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Well, I reckon your choices are:
* Drive to Meribel Village every day with your passengers geared up and the driver putting boots on in the car park
* Book a space in Meribel Chaudanne Rhodos carpark and lockers under the Saulire Express so you all get geared up together
* Book a morning taxi bus every day for the group to either Village or the Chaudanne and ski back to Plantin
* See if the ski shop in Village will store your gear and walk (it's about 1km)
* Hitch (don't laugh it's actually very common!)
* Pray that they reintroduce the Meribel Village - La Tania ski bus that used to run because that stopped in Plantin
It's many years since I've done it but from memory the "run" back to Plantin is a pretty benign track through the trees. It's off-piste but all the Plantin locals use it. If one of you is a much stronger skier than the rest, that person could ski back, pick the car up and collect the rest from Village or wherever.
