Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

For my kid as they are on sale at the moment @ £220 Inc bindings.

Wanna know if they will suit. Skis are 152cm and 84mm wide All Mountain according to the blurb.

Daughter is 155cm (5'1"), 64kg, athletic and very strong (i.e. 100kg deadlift). She's done about 70 days on snow and is pretty good on and off piste.

She has been on k2 park skis the last 2 seasons. This Jan the when it was rock hard she hired some narrower piste skis and she liked how she could put more power into the turn.

I'd get he some piste, approaching race style skis except she still wants to ride pow whenever she can.

So the question is will she over power these skis? They do not have metal in them. She's not expected to get any taller, and may get a bit stronger and a couple of kg heavier in the next few years.

Or could you suggest something else? She doesn't want anything much over 84 under foot.

Thanks

I think the model would be suitable - but if your Daughter is strong and competent, they could be a little short. IMV. Ideally, she'd be better on the next size up @ 160 (though it's probably not available). It has a Tip and Tail rocker, so will ski shorter than its length suggests.

Length is a tricky one. She spent half a day on her brother's 162 softish twin tips. She found the length cumbersome on technical off piste. So I don't think she will go for anything more than her 155 height.

Obviously being relatively heavy for her height and wanting a ski that can carve hard and float in pow that is also not too long or wide is like the moon on a stick.

At the end of the day, she needs to be comfortable with the length.

FWIW (which is not much) - My Daughter is 5' 7", around 64/65kg and skied on K2 Burnin Luv in a 163 when a teenager. She never goes Off Piste and though competent, doesn't sound as technically proficient as your Daughter. It may be a matter of getting used to the extra length - which could take more than half a day.

Working purely in "theory":

By the sound of it, your Daughter is 10 stone, a fit and strong advanced skier, who is comfortable Off Piste. As such, she should be more than capable of handling a 160 On Piste and even a little longer in an All Mountain ski that covers Off Piste. For this to happen, she needs the right instructor to give her the confidence to believe in herself ie. Her technique will hold up on a longer ski.

It's a bit different - but my weight varies between 10 and 10.5 stone - I used to be 9.5 stone not that long ago (I am taller - but imv weight is a much bigger factor); I have been skiing for longer and my Off Piste skiing is no more than "OK for a holiday skier"....and I use Scott The Ski in a 180.....but the difference being, I learned to ski Off Piste on 2m Straight skis (it took ages) - so 180 seems short. A lot of this is all in the mind....but you don't have to tell me how stubborn a teenage Daughter can be (My Daughter takes after her Mother!).
