Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi SH!
I've got an excuse to be in Zurich for work in the middle of November, and looking at squeezing an early season ski trip in the weekend before. So I'm wondering if you lovely lot have recommendations of where would be good to go skiing/boarding nearby:
Considerations:
- Travel time/ease of getting there on the Friday (from London) and to Zurich on the Monday (in time for afternoon meetings).
- Likelihood of actually having any snow there
- Variety of slopes
- Variety of apres
- €€€
- Anything else I should be aware of...?
Thanks in advance for the suggestions/comments

Engelberg and Andermatt should both be open for weekend skiing in mid-November.

Is that just the Glacier? How good is the ski area that's likely to be open?

For the ten years I lived there Engelberg opening was limited to the glacier in the Oct-Nov period, then would shut down completely for ten days for revisions in mid-November, before the winter season started in the last week of Nov. After that they would open as much as they could, usually down to Stand and possibly Truebsee, pretty much everything before Christmas, but obviously varied snow cover from year to year.

Its going to be limited at that time of year. Engelberg Titlis is closest as others have said but I think last year we were still hiking around Traubsee at that time so skiing was up on the glacier.

Do you reckon Zermatt (or Cervinia side) is likely to be more open at that time of year?

@fgh,
Ask otp.co.uk about Zermatt, inc train to/from Zurich.

Zermatt almost certain to be open unless we get an exceptionally mild autumn. World Cup race scheduled for 8th to 12th November. It was cancelled due to lack of snow last year mind you. On the other hand, Zermatt apres ski is always good, and year round. There are no guarantees these days.
