Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Elan Ripsticks 96 difficulty when poling

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I recently sold my Elan Ripsticks which I was very happy with, however having had to wait over two hours for my skis to arrive in Geneva in January, then missing my transfer I sold them and am now going down the rental route.

Skiing in Tignes last week I hired exactly the same model as I had sold.

The only issue I had with my own Ripsticks and the ones I rented is that they don't glide well when poling or trying to do a skating step. The skis in each case were serviced and waxed abroad and in the UK by shops that I trust. It is not a question of physical strength or technique either. I compare pretty well with the people I ski with.

Ripsticks are asymmetric in design meaning that there are designated left and right skis. I was wondering if this had anything to do with them not sliding as well on the flat as I would expect. Does anyone else have any idea?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I had a pair of Ripstick 86 rentals last week, and didn't notice any particular issue with poling personally. Someone else in the group was on the 96s, and they didn't complain of any poling issues either.
