Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Chamonix - Hotel Alpina

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello snowHead !

Just a quick question really. Has anybody stayed at the Hotel Alpina in Chamonix? If so, was it any good? Was it easy to get the bus to the ski area?

I've not been to Chamonix before but from the looks of things you stay in the town and have to get a bus from any hotel to the lifts?

Any other recommendations would be appreciated. The problem we are having is finding places that do Thursday to Thursday, as we have booked flights to Geneva on 1st February!

Thanks in advance everyone.

Mark

munf, welcome to snowHeads! snowHead Chamonix is home to SMALLZOOKEEPER and LARGEZOOKEEPER, so you should probably go say hello to them wink

Some stuff on Chamonix here which mentions the Alpina:

munf, The bus stop to all parts of the resort is just opposite but you will need the bus! Book yourself in, i've been told it's good and pop by the shop, the rest will be at least hazzy! We'll sort out your ski hire and any boot issues you may have. There probably is better, cheaper and posher but i don't know where as we do shoes!
See you soon?
Steve.

My boyfriend's stayed there, he said it was fine. It's just had a massive facelift as well, they've been working on it all summer, so hopefully should be pretty good for you! The position is very good, really central. You could walk to Brevent (short but steep!) , which will give you access to Flegere too.

We stayed there in April for a few days. Its fine. Good food in the resturant on the top floor with great views over the Mont Blanc Massif.
We had a car so it was ideal as it has an underground car park.
You will have no problems getting to the slopes as the bus stops are nearby.

munf, if you are using a car to get from Geneva to Chamonix you'd be best off using it getting around the resorts as well, parking is generally reasonable (and free iirc). I stayed in the Alpina some years ago on a short break and it was plenty good enough, in particular I liked the central location. Would go back.
