Poster: A snowHead

Last-minute trip leaving 24, 25 or 26th. Where's the best bet for some snow? My usual DIY haunt Sauze doesn't look good. Open to any options, but ideally somewhere that suits both ski and board.

Zermatt - it's bloody brilliant here this week and there might be more snow coming this weekend
Train tickets from Geneva at 3 days' notice probably won't be cheap though

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@jebroni3_16, probably not that expensive, Swiss trains aren't.

At present there is lots of snow on the maps for the higher French resorts but also good amounts for Switzerland and Austria. Remains to be seen if it stays on the maps. Very windy too.
Any of the resorts towards the top of the wepowder list would be good bets:-

They aren't cheap. Especially without a Half Fare Travelcard.
I think the cheapest I found for a Super Saver Ticket from Geneva Airport to Zermatt this weekend when I looked the other day was 80CHF. And if you're buying one of those, you need to be pretty damn sure you aren't going to be late for it for one reason or another.
My Saver Day Passes each way were 52CHF when I bought them the full 60 days out and I don't think there were ever any Super Saver tickets available cheaper than that either. Might be wrong though.

@VodkaSorbet - where did you decide?

Nowhere in the end. Transport was all too awkward (partly with French strikes) and everything looked too expensive to risk poor conditions. I was going to try either Cervinia (cheaper Zermatt-ish option) or Passo Tonale before I gave up.

@VodkaSorbet, will you ever book a flight to Zurich and get a train to Engelberg and ski the half a meter plus of fresh powder and be thankful. Lift pass is reasonable, I think there's a reduction if you arrive by train. Reasonable accommodation available too.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

And then when you get there, it’s… closed |
The pic shows a Utah resort closed - but it was California that was suggested earlier

There is no risk in March in the Old Faithful-type alpine resorts such as Tignes, Val D'Isere, Val Thorens, Chamonix, Zermatt, Ischgl, Obergurgl or Sölden - to name but eight ski areas. And that's by no means an exclusive list.

There is always risk of poor weather in any resort.
