We are driving Avoriaz to Val thorens in a weeks time, looking at the 3 recommended routes. Does anyone have any experience of best route?
Looked at Avoriaz, Megeve, Albertville and up to VT or Geneva, Annecy, Aix Les Bain and up to VT?

Yes, I'd go that way. But just do a last minute check that the Gorge d'Arly is open and clear - that road sometimes shuts at very short notice because it's subject to landslides. Famously. Lovely drive, though.

@Rob Mackley, we are heading across on Easter Saturday (8th).
@Nadenoodlee, that was my thought hence why I asked. We’ve got the kids, 8&11 and sometimes feel a little woozy coming down from avoriaz so prodains lift is sometimes used

@Pix, I would go then , Geneva ,off the auto route first Annecy exit but put in the Sat NAV Talloires as a way mark so you go around the east side of the lake avoiding the traffic on the west side and Annecy centre .it’s the most direct route and pretty.

Don't pay the extortionate highway tolls: take the Annecy Lake route if during daytime, and not a busy Saturday (where Southbound, whether East or West of the lake, could be busy).
Both sides are scenic, although for the views I personally prefer the Western side! The Eastern route (via Talloire) is more direct and avoids Annecy centre. You can even avoid the Veyrier bottleneck via back routes if needed.
There are radars between the lake and Alberville, just always respect the speed limit.

I don't think the Val d'Arly route is particularly sickmaking unless you have a driver who just insists on proving how fast he can throw the car round bends. In which case he can probably make people sick on most roads. The drive along the val d'Arly is very pleasant, and mostly fairly flat once you're up the hill out of Sallanches. Not fast though - if you have one of those impatient drivers he might huff and puff and do violence to his blood pressure.

I'd wait and see what the traffic looks like. Easter Sunday shouldn't be a problem if you leave in the morning.
I noticed on Google maps that the easiest route is going all the way around to Chambery, which makes sense. My family have made me stop going through the gorge after leaving Ugine...they get motion sickness rather easily, though. Apparently gorges are the worst for that, they say.
Going along the side of lac d'Annecy must be really, really out of the way.
