Poster: A snowHead

Hi all,
I'm done for 2023, but would really love to go to Zermatt in 2024, I need some advice.
1. Where is the best palace to stay? The town map looks like it has 3 lifts in the town. We will probably ski in the Glacier Ski Paradise area most days. Any reasonably priced hotel recommendations?
2. The ski area looks like it's broken up, can you link easily across the mountain?
3. It's very high - is January a risk for bad weather - I know lap of the gods!
4. How expensive is it? I looked at a few prices and it seems not too bad, similar to the 3 Valleys?
5. Any other tips or things I should be aware of?
Thanks
Rory

A reasonably priced palace in Zermatt is going to be tricky.
There is an awful lot of information and advice on Zermatt and Cervinia in various threads on this forum.... have you had a good search?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

It is indeed worth a search on the forums as you will find a lot of information out there, but briefly in answer to your questions
1. You don’t need to stay right by the Klein Matterhorn lift to ski up on the glacier most days - there is plenty of accommodation at that end but you are furthest away from bars, restaurants, shops etc. it’s a personal preference thing but we always stay near the Sunnegga funicular. Easy access to the mountain, buses and taxis to the lift at the other end are right there too. Plenty of bars/restaurants etc close by. What is reasonable for accommodation is subjective - do you have a budget in mind?
2. Yes, very easily, assuming you are at least an intermediate skier - challenging for a beginner perhaps.
3. We have sat outside eating lunch on New Year’s Day, we have also been snowed in in January. It’s height makes it pretty snow sure, but yes it can be windy. But it’s the mountains, and you can’t easily predict the weather!
4. Probably a reasonable comparison though some things are ‘cheaper’, for example if you have children under 9 they ski for free…
5. It is a pretty special place, and nowhere else has the Matterhorn! Any specific tips you are after??

Thanks that’s very helpful, by reasonable I mean less than €1500 for the week, happy to do b&b or an apartment.
What’s the price of a pint roughly?
How is the après-ski? I’m used to the lively Austrian resorts.
I’ll have a good search of the forums later.
Thanks again
Rory
