Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Transporting skis

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all - we normally head off skiing with a roof box on the car and then stick our skis inside the car. We might need to take a third person in the back on the next trip and so I am wondering if anyone has managed to put skis and a roof box on the roof? I know you can get the skis inside the roof box but am wondering if anyone has seen things that clip the skis to the roof bars AND allow a roof box to sit alongside.

Thanks very much

You can get narrow roof boxes to solve this problem.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Put the skis upside down between the roof box and the roof bars.

@Warnergb7, if it's a narrowish roofbox you can have skis alongside.

I am sure www.roofbox.co.uk can advise though.

Don't much like having skis outside of the roofbox. But we got a set of these for zipping around resort if needed. I think there are various versions about. Would probably reinforce the straps somehow for a longer journey (and of course, it depends on how wide your roofbox is).

@Warnergb7, yeah, worth mentioning there was a debate about a while back on bindings getting damaged from salt/stuff from the road when exposed. As ever some were convinced it was very bad for them, others more circumspect.

@Warnergb7, Depends on the width of you roofbox. But I've had a roofbox, skis, and bikes on the roof at the same time before. IIRC the car was a Fiat Panda. Skis bungied on.
