Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi, a quick question / any difference in quality between No Fear and Mountain Warehouse ? Ski jacket for 1 weeks skiing per year . Just looking at second hand ones for my growing teenage son so it will only be used for 1 week. Only a few pounds difference in price . Is newer better ?? Thanks

Better - depends on the waterproof rating, breathability, tech like goretex, etc.
When I was younger I bought a jacket just because I liked it. It was 5k waterproof. First day of heavy snow I was wet & cold through.

Neither are very good quality. Plenty better options on ebay etc if he'll wear 2nd hand.

you just need to know what you want to buy.

brands ..... phenix, goldwin. SOS, vist, kjus, toni sailer, mountain force, colmar.

All pretty good european brands that don't have the "premium-cache" that UK skiers are conned into buying.

For mid-older teenagers my advice would be to buy a jacket they like wearing casually as well as to ski in - eg Carhartt / Nike / North Face / Napapijri etc - this way you get more value out of the purchase

If not then Decatholon / Go Outdoors is your best bet for some cost effective gear . . .much better than the C&A neon I was forced to wear back in the 80s!

Know what you are buying, decent >10k waterproofing, get the size right etc .Lookout for 'fake' stuff on ebay (new and used). Sportpursuit is our go for discounted ski wear, but we've used many reputable retailers of the years. Snow and rock and Ellis Brigham are just too pricey to start with...

The secondhand clothing I've sold over the years as bee brilliant value for top quality gear, just didn't fit anymore (despite my daughters insistance that the Descente jacket was not too tight).
