Could someone please give me a steer on the route from the top of L'Aiguille to Le Monal? (and indeed how to get back to SF)
Is it suited for strong piste skiers looking to expand their limited off piste skills, or should we stick to something else? Suggestions?

The route looks pretty straight forwards with mellow skiing but would you trust yourself to make an informed decision that the south facing slopes of Rocher de Pierre d'Arbine aren't going to avalanche onto you on the traverse back to Sainte Foy? I'm more relaxed about skiing between the pistes style off-piste without equipment or a guide than many on this forum but that route, which definitely isn't 'between the pistes' does strike me as one with risks that need managing

^^^, yes, I skied the route ages ago so maybe take with a pinch of salt but I remember the skiing being pretty mellow but you are a long way from the pistes so your navigation needs to be on point if you're not planning to take a guide/instructor

@rambotion, @Arno, very fair points. I think I may have a play around on Renard/Shappers/Crystal Dark etc to see how we get on, then look at getting a guide for Le Monal, just to be on the safe side.

@TheMikeSki, the ESF ski school does regular guided trips you can join if the conditions are good enough to run the route, rather than hiring a guide. MIght work out cheaper

@TheMikeSki, @nbt, is correct take the ESF route , pretty and nice views only one slightly tricky section . If you hire a guide they might want to give you a better off piste experience for your moneys worth .
