Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Slovakia ski trip - ideas/suggestions

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi - posting for a friend who is after a budget family ski holiday.

She has booked return flights in Feb half term 2025 to Poprad-Tatry in Slovakia. Her initial idea is to go skiing in Jasna.

Does anyone have any suggestions regarding skiing in Slovakia? She's not booked accommodation yet so Jasna is just the initial idea. Maybe there are better resorts? She would be open to a hotel/self catering. It's 2 adults and 2 teenage kids (1 x experienced skier, 2 early intermediates and 1 beginner).

Thanks!

I flew to Poprad this summer and toured around the Tatras. Very impressed. Beautiful scenery, historic towns and castles, reasonable prices for everything.

Food is a variation of the Austro-Hungarian offering... soups, dumplings, stews, goulash, potatoes, pork meat, sheeps cheese, etc. Tasty but stodgy!! Laughing

Can't really comment on the ski offering, but saw some of the lifts around the resorts in the High Tatras. Tatranska Lomnica was spaciously laid out, a mixture of Belle Epoque style, communist blocks and newer Alpine chalet style. Strbske Pleso was nice with its lake.

Jasna has the most extensive slopes in Slovakia (24 lifts, 50km) though, so it's probably is the best option for a week. It's in the Low Tatras, a bit further away from the airport. I didn't visit, as it doesn't have much appeal out of ski season.

There are SnowHeads who have skied there, I remember it being mentioned before.

I've skiied in Jasna twice, but it was 10 years ago. Enjoyable for the level we were at then, and we only spent a day there each time as I had driven across the mountains from Zakopane in Poland for the day. Hairy drive back in the snow and dark, though.
The skiing was enjoyable and affordable then. Met some UK groups who were staying for the week and were really enjoying themselves. If you've gotta drive to the slopes every day, then parking was was challenging then.

There are ~60 ski resorts in Slovakia.

Jasna is the biggest.

Big, for Slovakia. Tiny, by international comparison.

Offpiste is surprisingly good (when it snows).

Here's a link to my 2019 trip report to Jasna, plus a tiny nearby resort @kettonskimum. Unfortunately, the associated photos don't seem to work now, but you'll hopefully get the gist.
