Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

La Tania to Val Thoren Ski route for intermediate skiers

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi - looking for the best route to ski from La Tania to Val Thoren.
Small group including some less experienced skiers.
Would consider use of bubbles (where permitted) for route down a run if only option for less experienced skiers.
Many thanks

Assuming you are all capable of any blue run, it's very doable, La Tania Bubble and Dou des Lanches chair up, down Bd de la Loze and Marmotte into Meribel. Up Tougnete 1 and down Perdix into Mottaret, then up Plattieres (if you can manage a little bit of red you can go up Tougnete 2 down dahu (red) and then Martre (blue) and then take the Chatelet chair up to the same point as the top of Plattieres), down to the Cote Brune chair, and you're over into VT via pluviometre.

To get back go up the 3 Valleys Chair, and down Lac de la chambre (can be a bit icy and chopped up late in the day), take the plan des mains chair up (you can continue down ours but it has long flat sections which require a lot of skating/pole pushing), down Sitelle and Martre into Mottaret, keep going down the green to Meribel Centre, take Saulire express and get off at the mid station, ski across to the Loze chairlift and you're back over into LT

Can't disagree with the route above but would add a couple of caveats. Check the 3V app first thing to make sure the Boulevarde is open, it is sometimes shut for avi risk above. You do not want to take Pic Bleu as an alternative - it's a tough blue.

On the way there, Dahu is tough for intermediates, I'd skip Tougnete 2 and go directly to Plattieres to save time. There's either a bit of a punt to get across the Mottaret snow front to Plattieres on the green level or a chopped up bit if you cut across on the blue above Pas du Lac to Plattieres. If you don't fancy either of those you can take the Combes chair and Martre blue path to the Chatelets chair instead. Much easier than Dahu.

The way back from VT is much longer skiing wise than the route there. I would allow 2 hours for tired intermediates to get back so make sure you're on the 3V chair or triple cabin out of VT around 2pm to be comfortable. There is now a blue path that cuts out much of the top toughest section of Lac de la Chambre (sharp right at the end of the path from the 3V chair). There's another relatively chopped up section further down before a long run out path.

When you get to the end of the flat path section, it dips down into a piste and goes straight on but there is also a path on the left. It's not always obvious because people naturally group up there and sometimes stand across it so look for the loiterers. The path is much easier than the piste which has a long uphill section at the end of it to the Plan des Mains chair which very few people can make without poling. Take the path instead and at the end, cut straight across the piste to continue with the path on the other side. This will bring you out above the Plan des Mains lift and is much quicker and easier.

The blue run from the top of Plan des Mains to Mottaret centre is hard work for intermediates. It's not really steep, just always cut up, crowded and frequently icy at the top and slushy at the bottom. Allow plenty of time. If you think it will be too much or are running late, you can walk up to the Plattieres lift from the top of Plan des Mains and download instead. It's only about a 70m walk up a gentle gradient from the top of Plan Des Mains.

Again, if you're running late or tired, you can skip the long Truite green into Meribel and get on Pas du Lac in Mottaret centre. Get off at the mid-station and turn directly right down the steps and under the lift to the other side. Then take the blue path towards Meribel, it comes out just below the Saulire Express mid station (same place mentioned above but without having to ski Truite) and continue across to the Loze chair. This is by far the quickest route back to LT.

Have fun! Madeye-Smiley

the first two posts have nailed it - lovely trip, have a good time

if you can do LT to St Martin and Les Mens one day too, then do that as well - skiing in the far valley is nice.
Always seems a refreshing world away from Courchevel and Meribel.

Many thanks for the advice. Did the VT run today and with only a couple of amends due to closed runs it was great!
Much appreciated Very Happy
Off to the sauna to ease my very weary legs!!!
