Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Bus From Tignes to Bourg St Maurice

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Evening folks,

I've done a search and haven't quite found what I'm looking for, just a few horrior stories!

We are planning a trip to Tignes Les Brevieres at the end of March and will get the bus between Bourg Saint Maurice and Tignes. Getting there is easy due to an hour wait between the train and bus, however I’m less sure about the return trip as the wait between is much less. We have booked a TGV leaving Bourg Saint Maurice at 16:48 and could get a bus which arrives 16:20, leaving us less than 30mins gap. Do the Altibuses (or whoever they use for this route!) generally run to time and in your experience would less than 30mins gap be sufficient? The earlier bus is over an hour earlier, so will cut into skiing time, however I don't want to miss the train!

Thanks for any help in advance.

In my experience the buses do run to time for the most part yes. 30 mins is fine as the bus and train stations are next to each other and the total walk is about 100m from bus to train platform. However I would get the earlier bus just in case there is snow on the road or whatever.

I've not used the bus up from Bourg so I might be talking tosh, but I'd want to check exactly where you can get on or off the bus. Les Brevieres isn't Tignes proper - and for the most part isn't even on the same road. I've never seen a bus/coach trying to get down the Brev main drag.

I can see that it's possible to buy a ticket from Bourg to Brev with Altibus, but can't picture where the bus stop in Brev is. If you've got to get to Boisses/1800 (or worse Tignes Le Lac Bus station) to actually get on or off the bus then that's going to add considerable time to your trip.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

The bus stop is by the Tabac for the service buses, it’s a challenging 3 point turn. It’s about the first building from the main road.

It’s 25 mins from Brev to BSM railway station in a bus plus or minus 5 mins. Some of those TGVs can be very long if it’s a double header! But 9 times out of 10 you should be ok. Might be worth having a careful look at the weather and traffic closer to the time.

From a habitual, running timings to the wire, type character Very Happy I always seperate these decisions by the consequences.

If you're standing at BsM and watching the train depart, without you, then how would you feel ?

And how much worth skiing to the wire before departure is to you, then you have an answer, or paying again for replacement travel Toofy Grin

Of all the things I've been embarrassingly late for Embarassed I always try to make sure I get those fixed connects nailed.

Thanks for all the information folks,
I think I'll catch the earlier bus back to Bourg and grab a take away pizza and glass of wine while I wait Smile

Thanks for the heads up. Is that stop for both directions? It looks like a challenging left turn onto the D878 (road to Les Brevieres) from the D902 (main road to Tignes)!

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

The junction is very wide and not a problem even for larger vehicles.

Just done our first ever Altibus trip from Tignes to Bourg St Maurice. We're staying in BSM overnight as it was Mrs MA's birthday (14 Jan) and we fancied a night out rather than flying home on her birthday. We've been out for a very nice Indian meal.

The 17.00 bus left about 5 mins late and took just under an hour to BSM after stops at Tignes Le Lac and Les Brevieres. Very comfortable journey on a very warm bus. We didn't even have our tickets checked! Will definitely use Altibus again.

We were on a bus earlier in the day. We had a similar good experience. What was the Indian place please? We’re based in Les Arcs for 10 days and will get down to Bourg for an evening meal at the Cherry Garden but will have another night for decent Indian.
