Another day with accidents:
28-year-old Dutchwoman killed in Hintertux
New Year's Day has been dramatic on the Hintertux Glacier in Austria. Several serious accidents occurred, including one with fatal consequences. A 28-year-old Dutch wintersporter was killed.
Accidents in the same place
The fatal accident took place on the Schwarze Pfanne (red piste 1 valley run), this is the red valley run on the side of the ski area on the Hintertux Glacier. Around 10.15 am, a couple of friends skied over a steep and icy part (ice shelf). At this point, a 28-year-old woman and her 27-year-old girlfriend lost surface grip. They fell independently of each other, after which the 28-year-old slid a hundred meters, flew through a safety net and came to a stop against a tree. She died of her injuries. Her 27-year-old girlfriend also went down, slid over the edge of the track and came to a stop in stony terrain. With serious injuries, she was taken by helicopter to the hospital in Kufstein.
Less than half an hour later, a 55-year-old German woamn fell at the same spot and also came to a stop next to the piste . She was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Another accident
As if this wasn't enough, the helicopter had to pull out a third time in the afternoon. Now on the red piste 5 where a 56-year-old German had skied against a piste sign. He suffered eye injuries.
No further details have been disclosed about the circumstances of the fatal accident.

Terrible, accidents happen but sounds like the piste should have been closed if three people have had serious accidents in the space of 30 mins at the same spot.

Terrible tragedy . Condolences to family freind and hope the injured lady recovers. I've skied that run several times and it's not easy.
