Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ischgl Reccomendations?

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi all,

We’re heading to Ischgl first week of Feb. I've had a search through the forum, but most of the main posts I can find are from a good few years ago, so I was hoping to get some more up-to-date advice from people who’ve been recently.

We’re a group of 5 guys early 40's, a mix of skiers and snowboarders, all reasonably competent. We tend to enjoy good reds & cruisy blues. Steeper reds are absolutely fine, just ideally not ice. Tend to avoid blacks if they're steep or really icy, but don't mind a mogul or two. Are any of the ski routes are worth doing for a bit of a challenge, or not really worth it?

Apres we're up for pretty much anything depending on our mood — happy for a bit of full-on Austrian chaos, other nights just somewhere good for a few pints and a decent atmosphere. Likewise any recommendations for afternoon apres on piste would be good

We’re staying B&B only, so would be good to get some tips on good quality but reasonably priced places to eat in the evenings. Likewise, any good quality on piste restaurants that we should make sure to check out or good value lunch spots on the piste?

Any other tips or anything obvious I've missed?

@Jung, My experience is that restaurants are a bit thin on the ground, as most people do half board, hence the places that do exist (outside of the usual apres spots) such as the Italian get busy and you need to book.

Its been a while since I was there but remember the ski route going to the bottom of the Gampenbahn being interesting without being crazy steep.

The main on piste apres spot is Paznauner Thaya, can get a bit mad at chucking out time (early by Austrian standards) as can be seen on various you tube videos.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

That's good intel on the restaurants thanks. Worst case so long as there are a few places we can get a half decent burger or pizza we'd be happy.

We are in Ischgl now. We have liked: The Peak Restaurant in the Alpina hotel, Prenner restaurant at the bottom of the Red 1a, Bar and Bistro Castelo ( if you are that end of town). Menus a bit more modern.

Golden Eagle is a great pub, if you don’t want europop, dancing girls, etc

There are plenty reds, and blacks that are like tough reds, as long as the snow is in good nick.

We had a couple of lovely atmospheric meals in ( La) Luba down the road from the hotel Sonne. Austrian food with set dining times, it is small and you probably need to book.

Restaurant Nevada at East end of village is good, you’d have to book.

Great snow. Too warm, for January, but the snow is holding up. (It dumped last week.) Some pistes not yet open, but they are busily preparing after the snow dumps.
