Hello,
I am in Chamonix for NYE this year!
Can anyone recommend any restaurants to book, or have any further info as to how it is typically celebrated in the town?
Thanks.

@dh900, pretty simple really, crowds pile into main square, get peeshed, set off illegal fireworks, bars charge outrageous fees for entry.
Not complicated.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Seem to remember last year someone also completely (and I do mean completely) covered a small hatchback in fairy lights and drove it around tooting their horn.
Unless of course I was hallucinating on my early hours walk back to Praz?

Same as most places really. Just get very drunk then mill about outside at around midnight. Simple!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Yeah, @dh900, not entirely sure where your question is leading?

Reading carefully between the lines I suspect he might be after a restaurant recommendation.

Is that small burger place still there? Just off the main square?

@pam w, has that been edited in? Or am I just a bit slow on the uptake? [/rhetorical]
Do you have a budget in mind? Almost everywhere is going to be at least expensive.
If budget is no issue, in no particular order; Maison Carrier, Matafan at Hotel Mont Blanc, Le Castel (a bit out of town, in les Praz), Le Cap-Horn ... Bit more budget oriented; Bighorn, Boccalatte, Pointe Isabelle

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

As an American expat, I am partial to Bighorn for nostalgia reasons. Never had a bad meal there...https://www.bighornbistro.com/fr/

We are in Chamonix for New Year too and are booked in the restaurant at La Folie Douce as we are staying there. I think the restaurant is now full though.
Other places you could try would be Le Monchu, Microbrasserie De Chamonix (MBC), or Pointe Isabelle - I think they are likely to be fully booked by now but worth giving them a call/email
L'Hydromel is walk-in only and does excellent food and usually some form of live music.
Have a great time!

@PortSki, Yep to Monchu, MBC is really just burgers and wings but copious quantities, usually, I don't think the bookings will be that full quite yet but I would be getting my skates on!!
Must confess - while Hydromel does possibly the best pornstars in the world (cocktails that is) - we've only (properly) eaten there once and were somewhat underwhelmed. THe chips are good after too many pornstars though.
Be interesting to see what you think of the food at FD. Can't really get my head round the place, never mind the €65 bottles of presecco that you can buy at Carrefour for €7 ... That's a mark up I'd like to be charging

The kids love Hydromel so we eat there quite a bit but agree its not fine dining - just good quality eats that doesnt break the bank.
LFD - the food is spot on. We usually stay there once a year and eat there two or three times during the stay and never had a bad meal there. While not the cheapest, its not the most expensive either - probably on parr with somewhere like Monchu. They did a fantastic cod dish earlier this year that im hoping against hope is still on the menu!

@PortSki, in fairness to the Hydro, it was just after they'd opened. We probably should give them another shot.
