Poster: A snowHead

Hi
Booked flights to Treviso and thinking about San Martino. Did Civetta a few years ago and although the snow wasn't great, it was fine and easy from Venice. Cortina is an option as it's the same distance and much more skiing, but I like off the beaten track resorts sometimes so wondered if anyone had been to San Martino. If conditions aren't great I may venture to Cortina which I did a day in years ago as part of an Arabba trip but know it'll be more crowded and more expensive. Also, anyone know if Cortina pistes are now linked to Cinque Torri as a new connecting lift was planned?

Imho cortina is the poor sister of San martino di castrozza. I've never seen so many 5* hotels in one place. Or so much general wealth. one of the world's poshest resorts.
I don't know what the skiing is like but the Pala have a reputation for beautiful scenery and lot of rain during the summer. Probably a lot of snow in the winter as well.
If I could afford it I'd love to go.

Passo San Pellegrino is stunning, we spent a day there in January on our trip.

Thanks folks. Yeah, Passo Rolle will be skied if we're in SMdiC. Cortina just a back up in case of poor snow but I guess if it's bad, it'll be bad all over and Treviso is my destination airport.

Snowmaking is second to none in the Dolomiti Superski region. In previous years with minimal natural snowfall in the early season, the pistes have been largely complete.
Not great if you're looking for off piste, but Cortina won't be significantly better.
The linking piste at the Croda Negra chair in Cinque Torri/Averau/Col Gallina area has no snowmaking, so this link has been closed when natural snow is lacking.
Passo San Pellegrino seems to often have good snow, something about the local topography funneling it in and 1900m base height preserving it.
