Poster: A snowHead
|
My daughter is 16, skied since she was 4 and can very literally ski rings around us.
She is really keen to progress and would love to be in a group of similar ability people. She is just startig to dip her toe into freestyle and would like to explore that further. The private instructor we had in December for a couple of lessons was taking her on the blacks in Grand Massif which are left unprepared which is brilliant for her level of looking at the next steps beyond everything pisted.
Is anybody aware of any of the ski schools in Mayrhofen that run a group at that level?
SMT have said thu don't, and suggest:
"At the moment we can not say how many booking there will be with this good standard.
Therefore I think it is the best when you visit our meeting point on the first day and discuss it directly with Renate, if we have this standard available."
Before I email every ski school I can find there, thought I would check here as a well.

Shame no-one's been able to help - me neither, never been to Mayerhofen.
I think your problem here is that normal ski school group lessons anywhere don't really cater for that level of specificity. Private lessons, like you've already done, will do whatever you want them to but of course are pricey. Best bet would be to try and find a group of like-ability kids and organise a trip based around their needs, just create your own group, as it were. Normally the pay-off point (at which the private lesson becomes cheaper than the same number of people in open group lessons) would be between three or four people in the group.
Otherwise I think you'd need to turn the whole thing on its head and choose your destination based on where, or if, you can find suitable group lessons rather than the other way around as you're currently doing. Sorry that's not much help, especially if you've already booked, but maybe for next year?

@Wyeski, that looked the sort of thing. Sadly no dates beyond 1st April which is a 8:30 meet and we land in Munich at 10:15 all going well.

@NickyJ, you might want to drop a message to SaraJ who "runs" the Zillertal thread, I believe she is a ski instructor based in the Zillertal she could well be able to help

@NickyJ, Thanks for your message.
I don't know the Mayrhofen ski schools at all so I can't recommend one, I'm afraid.
I think it's unlikely that you'll find group courses at the level/age range that you're looking for though. At 16 your daughter would probably be put in an adult group who wouldn't necessarily be interested in freestyle or off piste.
If you want something specific from the lessons then you need to be booking a private instructor. I think the Peter Habeler's ski school specialise in private lessons.
I'm sorry I can't be more help!

What can happen - and it is pot luck if it does - is that the top class only has 2 or 3 people in it. If they happen to be of a similar standard, then the lesson becomes more like a Private Lesson...that is if they don't cancel it for lack of demand.

Yep this is why I was hoping to find somewhere that has a dedicate class. In Serre Chevalier we tried to get a teens level lesson organised with the ski school. Helped me and friend had 3 good teens between us, they came back when they had another couple of good teens get in touch. Unfortunately a couple of adults were also added one was good skier, the orher really held back the group. Girls had fun so wasnt a waste but did limit what was learnt.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Usually if one person holds the group back they try to contact another group to transfer the person. Obviously wasn't possible that time.

For Feb half term they have little choice and options.

You know it makes sense.

This is a "left field" suggestion but would she be interested in learning to snowboard? It would be a while then before she could run rings round you!!
