Poster: A snowHead

Struggling to find a good deal for the upcoming season but have come across a good option in Valloire for early March. I skied Valloire three times as a kid and my overwhelming memory is that of lousy snow and having to get the gondola back down to the bottom of Setaz, but a lovely village. Anyone any recent experience, looking at the first week in March. The accommodation I’m looking at is Les Verneys way, have they sorted out decent artificial snow on those runs?

The piste map shows which runs have snowmaking (for Verneys, the green run does but the red doesn't).
In early March you'd have to be pretty unlucky to have poor snow cover somewhere like Valloire.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

The 4 March is when the French winter holidays end. So the week before that will be VERY crowded as it's Paris holidays, and accommodation very expensive. The week after is probably the best bet of the season, with far fewer crowds and cheaper accommodation, but still good snow and nicer weather than January.

We own an apt just over the valley in St Michel de Maurienne and skied Valloire last March for a long weekend around the 17th. Snow cover up high in Valloire and the linked slopes in Valmeinier was good although a bit slushy lower down in the late afternoon but the slopes were quiet and it sometimes felt you were on your own private mountain.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I find the snow conditions at Valloire deteriorate faster than at the other resorts on the south side of the Maurienne. Karellis, Valfrejus, La Norma all have snow that is better preserved unless it has just fallen (a question of orientation). That said they stock what falls, use cannons and generally manage the pistes pretty well. The lift system is mostly quick nowadays but as others have said it's still rammed at French half term weeks.

am guessing its because i made the mistake of saying the same thing on another question by a different person, just trying to give some context as someone who knows the area

second thread of the day I read in which he informed he he was a property owner. It didn't add anything to his answer. If he wants to start a Maurienne property owners thread then he should go ahead and do that rather than spamming other threads.

I was there this March and snow was good. All runs open into the village as I recall
