Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi All,
Seeking some advice and guidance please. Going on a father and son ski trip and narrowed it down to two places, Sestriere or Mayrhofen. I appreciate that there are no guarantees on late season snow but keen if anybody would pick one over the other and why? Dates are 29 March to 05 April. I have skied a fair bit and my son will have been skiing at half term with his school and done 3 weeks before. He will be 15 and fairly happy on reds and can handle black runs.
Thanks for any pointers.

Doesn’t get much more guaranteed than having Hintertux up the road.

@fasterafterlunch, I haven’t been to Sestriere so cannot comment.
We have been many times to Mayrhofen around that time.
Typical spring skiing likely. Rock hard pistes first thing softening up nicely during late morning with some heavier pistes late on. However we have also had -10 and heavy snow…..who knows! It it will be fine I would expect. If it’s just the two of you you can try the others resorts in the valley including Hintertux as suggested.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Looking at my photos from last year it chucked it down 1st,2nd,3rd April 2022. Plenty of fresh lines and quiet pistes.
I think this year that period will be more busy given Easter.

Sestriere is fine in good snow year. We were in Sauze in March and it was at best sketchy. The best skiing we had was Claviere / Montgenvre on the away day . Would be Mayrhofen for me.

Probably Mayrhofen. The Italian part of the Milky Way tends to shut at the end of the first week of April irrespective of snow conditions. However the french side ie Montgenevre is usually good in early April and stays open longer.
