Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Does anyone know wether US bought handheld radios can be used in Europe?
I did a search and various people seemed to think they couldn't but couldn't see a definitive answer.
Just in the US as the moment and looking at some devices with a larger range for use next season, circuit city is showing some devices as having between 10 and 15 mile range.
Cheers,
Greg

ok, found the answer!
FRS/GMRS cannot be legally used in UK as they work on the same frequencies as the Emergency Services
More info than you'd probably care to read here:

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

What frequency, what modulation?
The thing that trips most people up are the chargers. Not dual voltage.

Mine, US bought ones, work over here no problem. I think it's more a question of whether you're supposed to use them.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

It would inded be strange if some quality of the European atmosphere prevented radios which function in USA from working here.
It seems very unlikely that you'd be nicked for transmitting an illegal signal, although it would be bloody embarassing if you were nattering to your chum only to find later that you'd interfered with the local emegency services' comms and caused countless deaths.
