Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi all,
We’re due to head to st Gervais for Xmas (following last minute France ban last year) and wondering if anyone knows of any dog sitters/boarders in the area. I’m heading there with my brother and his family and as we have space in the chalet have seen if my parents want to join us, but my old man doesn’t like leaving his dog and the chalet (understandably) doesn’t allow dogs. We’ve done similar with friends in the past in Morzine and Samoens but can’t seem to find anything online so any help/recommendations welcome.
Thanks,
FT

Can’t say I’ve ever seen anything like that but if you use Facebook, there is an active StG Facebook group that is mainly English speaking & full of residents

So you're going skiing and rather than leave the dog with a dog sitter/boarder near home, you're going to take it with you. Then when you arrive, leave it with a sitter/boarder near where your staying?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thanks all. Will try Facebook.
Adithorp it’s my dads dog (I’m leaving mine), and he treats it like his father child/grandchild, he’s also in his early 70s so probably half days at best. I’m going with my family and my brother’s family and have room in the chalet for my folks and would be nice to spend Xmas with them but the dogs an issue for my old man. Completely agree it’d be easier to leave it at home!

If the chalet doesn't allow dogs, what happens when he/she isn't with the dog sitter? Your Dad will need to collect the dog to be able to see it, as it won't be sleeping in the chalet each night, and it would be quite unsettling for both of them if he is that attached to it to be taking him/her in and out each day. Find a chalet that you and your dogs can stay in or leave them at home. There are plenty who will accept dogs.
One thing though? Dog needs to have an up to date rabies jab, and any UK-issued EU animal passports are now invalid. Your Dad will need to get an Animal Health certificate before leaving the UK. He will also need to take doggy to a vets for a tapeworm treatment before coming back to the UK again.

I wondered about that. Does he go and visit the dog, like you visit a care home?

Hi all,
The chalet was a booking from last Christmas, when my folks were with my sister who lives in Sweden. This year they could join us, as we have space, but no dogs. We got a good late deal and would lose a hefty deposit if we changed chalets.
We’ve had friends come skiing in the past with a dog (they lived in France) but to a no dog chalet. The dog sitter bought the dog over each day or they would go and pick it up and talk it for walks etc, then give it back afterwards.
Hells - dog has just been to Sweden last month so my dad’s aware of all the certs etc.
Thanks,
FT
