Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Via Lattea at Christmas?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Thinking of going to the Via Lattea this Christmas for the first time from 22-28 December and probably staying in Sauze D'Oulx.

What I would like to know is, is it likely to be crowded at this time, especially after Christmas day?

Has anyone been around this time and would you recommend? Just don't want to end up spending half the day in lift queues rather than actual skiing!

Many thanks in advance.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@Palas222, a warning: the Via Lattea is less reliable than places further north for December snow. One year we went to Sestriere for the New Year week - the only pistes that were open were those with artificial snow that could be directly accessed from the main base. About six of them I recall, plus a short nursery slope.

We ended up doing a couple of hours skiing each morning, and the rest of each day enjoying lovely walks in the warm sunshine.

True the snow record isn't great but my 2 visits we lucked in with some of the best conditions I've had at Christmas.

@adithorp, to be fair, one day the tour operator organised a coach to take us round to Montgenevre where - a bit higher and with more exposure to weather systems from the west - the snow was reasonable.

And we did go a second time, also New Year, and got great skiing.

Thanks very much for the replies all. Very glad to hear that it shouldn't be crowded! And fair point about the weather! Will keep everything crossed that the snow gods will be kind this year Smile
