Poster: A snowHead

Afternoon all, I have stayed in Finkenberg before and loved the easy access to skiing but spent a couple of hungry-ish evenings wandering about trying to find food. Thinking of a return trip and still fancy staying there more than in Mayrhofen itself (it’s such good value and my true party days are just about behind me!) but wondered if anyone knows how easy it is to get to the ‘HOF by bus in the evenings for dinner/drinks? Thanks in advance…

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks @Dr.Snow, looks like they don’t run after 7/8pm ish so probably not a go-er. More thinking to do! Thanks for the link.

@Aitchotee, Tux is good. A few restaurants and some hotels with restaurants. Good access to the mountain. It has a decent supermarket. And you can walk down the path by the river to Voderlanersbach, which gives you some more options. Good free bus links during the day. But not as big or varied as Mayrhofen.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thanks again @Dr.Snow, I hadn’t thought of that so will check Tux out!

After a quick Google of taxi prices from Mayrhofen to Finkenberg it looks like it would cost €25-30 one way. Take the bus down and a taxi back. If there are a few of you it might be an OK price? Most taxis are 8 seaters.

@Aitchotee, I've stayed several times in Lanersbach at the Hotel Jäger. Very friendly staff and great food. Frequent ski bus service during the day up the valley to Hintertux or down the valley to Finkenberg and Mayrhofen

Taxis are very reasonable, I stayed in lower part of Finkenberg(Gstan) before Xmas and we took a few taxis, was €12 to the station. We also walked a few times in the evening to Mayrhofen- there is a path that avoids the road which is mainly lit at night.

@Aitchotee, have you tried the other Zillertal ski stations? I love the area but the Mayrhofen ski area is my least favourite. Zell is a nice wee village with a short easy bus ride to the slopes, Kaltenbach is barely a village at all but has the best ski area.
