Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Only in Switzerland, yet another tunneling project.
A new ski tunnel to be cut through the cliff of middle station. This will create a ski route down onto the Col du Pillon.
The lower slope is only accessible, at present, with a long full commitment off-piste ski from the top station.
Due to be open for the coming season.

That is interesting.... G3000 is a funny place. Decent skiing, good snow, modern lifts but no one there. Probably too many other good options nearby in Valais?

Skiable piste back to the carpark will make it much more accessible / appealing for the average punter.

@Haggis_Trap, I think you sum-up G3000 perfectly "it's a funny place".
However the right morning with some fresh snow it takes a lot to beat it. Most importantly it will not get tracked out that day!

I've been to Les Diablerets three or four times but have never been up to Glacier 3000, largely because it wasn't included on the Magic Pass (but now is). There used to be a skiable link from LD which would increase numbers a lot, there is a group working to reopen the lift (s?) in that direction but only as part of a membership scheme

Access to col du Pillon on ski was from the Isenau area. This has been closed 5, 6 years.
All the gondola pylons stripped out, my Leysin friends say it is now a touring meca.
Not heard about a plan to put new uplift in, but will ask said friends.

From what I can see, hear & read the alpine glaciers are next level destroyed this summer. Basically a step change in degradation.

Not entirely surprising and as skier / mountainers who like to travel we are all to blame Sad

Yup! Under rated spot. Had a couple of decent days skiing there.

@Haggis_Trap, Many years ago, an old mountain guide in Cham showed me a similar b&w pic of the glacier from when he was a nipper. Quite shocking even then. That’s why I requested an updated version.

Would be great if someone in Cham could find the spot your photo was taken just to compare.

Here you go.... Friend sent me this from balcony while discussing 1910 picture above. Close, but not exact.

Apparently even in mid 1980s you could still ski vallee blanche to just above montenvers Shocked

With ~6 billion tons of carbon taken out of the Earth & pumped into the atmosphere yearly, you really think a few skiers/climbers/mountaineers even register in the scheme of things, compared to industrial activity in China, India, USA..?

If you measure CO2 emitted per person then Western nations by far the worst offenders.

With our propensity to fly everywhere, use a lot of power to heat and cool our homes, consume the products of those Chinese and Indian industries, eat more than our fair share of polluting foods... Yes, of course we are contributing, even if we don't ski. On an individual activity basis there can be few more polluting activities than flying to a high mountain ski resorts where not just the fun, but the sheer staying alive, is so energy-intensive. @Rogerdodger, do you have a link to any detailed info please? I love Glacier 3000 for off-piste, I hope this won't ruin the secret....

It's currently a very sketchy traverse or an 80m abseil open one weekend a year to get access to that slope!

Go to G3000 website and there is all the info you need.

I think the abseil entrance will still be an option for @leggyblonde, too many mountain guides probably enjoy that access.

I'm certainly looking forward to visiting, unfortunately we don't have G3000 on the Top 4 regional lift pass.
