Poster: A snowHead

I've been to Sölden 3 times, really love there, but I have never been to the neighbor resorts: Obergurgl-Hochgurgl, how would you compare both ?
I'm booking Christmas week with 4 other friends that are beginners, so I need gentle runs. In Solden, run blue-13 is the way to go for beginners in my opinion, so I'll probably start there, but checking Obergurgl map I see that 85%+ of the runs are blue, which may be even more interesting than Sölden, as long as they are not too narrow, that tends to scare beginners.
Anyone here that has been to both of them?
I know there is a free bus that goes from one resort to the other, but thinking about easy access, I want to book a hotel in the resort where we will ski more.
Also, talking about nightlife and the choice of bars and restaurants, which one would be better ?
Cheers!

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

*In general, true beginners stay on the nursery slopes most of their first week. Even normal blue pistes have steep parts, which can be too challenging for them.
So would not focus too much on that.
*Obergurgl village is much smaller and sedate than Sölden

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Agree with @Langerzug, Obergurgl is probably better suited to beginner skiing, it's more compact, more convenient (hotel to slope), gentler, and more compact.
Nightlife has tended to be a little more subtle than Soelden, but I guess it depends upon what you are looking for. To be fair nightlife is always what you want to make it.
For me the terrain is more interesting in Obergurgl, I find Soelden a little stark, but of course, Obergurgl is a smaller ski area to that has its downside, although to be fair a beginner or early intermediate skier doesn't really need an area larger than Obergurgl.

Obergurgl has a thumbs up here too. Better suited to beginners than Solden. Actually I think Hochgurgl be the best of all 3 for your beginner buddies.
As others have mentioned Obergurgl is quieter than Solden but you can always use the bus if that’s your concern

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@AndreSilva, I've only been to Hoch Solden with the family and the nightlife was too tame for my 10 year olds ..
Every one in the Hotels in Hoch Solden went to bed before 8pm.
The only escape was to take a Taxi down to the village of Solden and go to the toboganing place.
But enjoy!

I've been to both.
To Obergurgl with Crystal at Hotel Austria. To Solden at Die Berge with breakfast only. Both hotels were perfect choices.
In Obergurgl half board was a good idea because the village was extremely quiet in the evenings. If that's your destination, go for a hotel with a decent offer and a reasonable bar within. Nederhutte was a fun place to stop at 15:00 for apres ski before skiing down to the village.
It's an extremely small place, no pharmacy for example but an automated vending machine for common necessities.
In Solden you'll find plenty of good places for dinner plus Austrian apres ski places (Fire&Ice, Kuckuck)
Skiing wise, the pistes are narrower in Obergurgl than in Solden. In bad weather, the visibility made Obergurgl an uncomfortable place for my beginners so we took the first bus to Solden based on their webcams. It was a smart choice because their blue pistes leading down to Giggijoch were perfect for my kids at that stage.
I think you should ask your friends what they wanna do in their afternoons and evenings then choose accordingly

Thanks for the tips guys, I guess I'll just book Solden and get a bus to Obergurgl on the first day, we'll be there in 3 couples with no kids, so apparently Solden has more options of bars and restaurants and that would be better.
Cheers!

@AndreSilva, for a great lunch place, try Kirchenkar Hütte at Hochgurgl/Obergurgl
