We have twins that will be 9 months old in Feb 2007. Any recommendations on which resorts would be good for us to visit?
The wife and I both ski/board so a creche would be handy.

I only know about French resorts so subject to that qualification - I think most ESFs run a creche for tinies.
Courchevel 1650 has one at the foot of the slopes next to the main lift station - the one in 1850 is concealed down the road and round a corner so the wealthy people don't have to see it ...

Nine months is too young for a lot of resort creches. You might be better off with a family-specialist TO, who lay on their own childcare. We have used Le Ski who have a creche in La Tania, and friends have used Esprit to Les Arcs. Both v good.

American resorts.
When our kids were that age we lived there and all the mountains we went to (East coast) had them and all creches that we used were absolutely excellent.

Richie, the creche in La Rosiere has a minimum age of 18mths, I believ that to be the norm in other resorts, so a TO such as Ski Espirt looks to be your best bet.

There has been a lot of discussion on here on creches, nannies and childrens skiing. We always use skibeat and have always been satisfied with them. There is a very good nursery in Vaujanay and Ski Peak based there do the best food I have ever had in the Alps. Family ski company in Morzine (Ardent) is in a great location, creche was ok but I was disappointed with the food (This was the last week of the season though). Just shout if you need more. If possible we always go as a group with a number of kids, takeover the entire chalet and try to ensure the creche is attatched to the chalet - makes the mornings very easy.

There's a creche in Allos that takes kids from 3 months.

Lake Louise in Canada takes babies from a few weeks, La Thuile from 6 months (or did) Vaujany creche is perhaps the best we have used in the alpes, but if its half term you need to book very early.

All my enquiries for austria so far have found creches with a minimum age of 2 and a hlf. I think they don't want to change nappies!!
It's a real pain. I much prefer Austria to France but my daughter will be 17months in Feb 2007 when we hoped to go on our next trip and it appears that only the surly French can accomodate us.

Peter B, my youngest adored the French nannies that looked after him.

I have been keeping an eye open for this too considering our little one will be about 6 months come next Feb/March, and noticed that Nelison has a handy table of resorts and childcare offered in terms of minimum age accepted etc.

Peter B, Crystal will do creche from 6 months, but book early as places (particularly not in the half term) go quickly in some places. We have used them twice and found them good.

We've skied three times with Family ski and have found them excellent, cant really recommend them highly enough.
Also, dont go for accommodation that is too high (Avoriaz is a real no-no) as children under 2 years can be susceptible to
altitude sickness, I'd definitely avoid anything at 2000m or above.

Is there any evidence for "Also, dont go for accommodation that is too high (Avoriaz is a real no-no) as children under 2 years can be susceptible to altitude sickness, I'd definitely avoid anything at 2000m or above" As it will be interesting to read. Thanks P.S. Welcome to Snowheads.....................

Altitude sickness - is it related to young children not being able to handle the change in pressure? They have trouble on planes which, along with their general propensity to cause mayhem, results in constant screeching.
I haven't even got an O level in any science so this, as with all great ideas, is based on nothing but ignorance and supposition.

Actually, after making that post I checked on "Altitude & Children" on google and could find nothing to support it!, however the post is based on one comment from a website http://www.familyski.co.uk/1/resorts/lestroisvallees.aspx and a firsthand experience of a colleague, so no hard facts

Very young children, on average less than 4 to 5 months are better at coping with the lower oxygen at high altitude than adults are as they have a high proportion of foetal haemoglobin which has a higher affinity for oxygen than adult hb. Average life of rbc is 120 days. What small children are not very good at is coping with cold. Their temperature control is not very good at all, they tend to overheat or get very cold quickly. Hence it is a very very bad idea to ski with baby in back pack on back. There is risk of damage in a fall, but more risk is them freezing. We took my daughter to Val Thorens when she was 3 months old and Lake Louise when she was 5 months, with the long flight. She even ended up in the jump seat on the flight deck (its was before 11th sept). We had no problems at all. As we travel on planes an enormous amount we trained her to suck on a dummy when landing and taking off, and it seem to work.

Richie, I was in Engleberg for a weekend last year, they had some of the biggest lockers I've seen, would be perfect for twins.
Hope things are OK with you.
