Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hintertux in November9

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi

I am toying with a short trip via Munich airport to ski on the Hintertux in November. Does anyone have an experienced view on what the skiing tends to be like there in Novembers?

Thanks!

Certainly have Very Happy Done loads of early to mid-November trips to Hintertux, Soelden, Pitztal, Stubai, Kaunertal and Kaprun in Austria, plus Saas Fee in Switzerland, Zugspitze in Germany and Tignes in France.

Chances are you will have great snow conditions with a fair bit (for November) of skiing available. It will probably be fairly quiet at Hintertux - except if there has just been a big snowfall. In that case, the gondolas are fine but the draglifts can generate queues. Generally nothing untoward though.

In all our November glacier trips, we've only had poor to bad experiences twice. Both times at Tignes as it happens - once with boiler plate snow conditions and no snow at all below 3000m - though we did ski for the full duration of our short trip - and once where it rained on the glacier one day then a storm closed the lifts the next day Confused

Not all on here are fans of early season glacier skiing - but I am Laughing so I'd say go for it nickinscottishmountains!

@nickinscottishmountains, should be ok but can get crowded at weekends. Not a big fan, unless you can ski to the middle station, which you usually can't in early Nov.

I've been there once in November (2018) and the conditions were fine. Not all pistes were open yet of course, and there were lots groups training, but overall the snow was fine, visibility was ok and it wasn't too busy.

I'm considering going skiing in the first weekend of June though. Last year I went to Austria (Kaprun, Hintertux and Stubai) for a week in that period and the conditions were great, although I think I was a bit lucky too.
What do you guys think would be the "safest" place to book for this period (in terms of open slopes and decent conditions)? I guess Zermaat or Hintertux, right...? (and no, unfortunately NZ, Australia, Chile and Argentina are no options)

Been to Hintertux lots in October/November, only once was it CRAZY busy. Not sure if there is a reason for this, perhaps one of then Munich or local guys will know.

This was the car park on 29th October 2005, I've never seen anything like this before or since.

@JimboS, There are public holidays in Austria on the 26th Oct. and 1st Nov.
If it snows around those dates and the weather forecast is good then every man and his dog go skiing.

@JimboS, I've seen it like that, plus all the lower car parks full, in late November at the weekend. Same for Stubai. That's the reason I don't go there at weekends at that time.

Another option ... Sölden/Obergurgl opened on Thur 17 Nov this year, so we did 4 excellent days on the Stubai glacier followed by 3 superb days @ Sölden/Ober-/Hochgurgl.
Everything was open from mid station in Sölden and down to the bottom at Obergurgl - fab Toofy Grin
