Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Skiis for a beginner

I found a set of volant power t3 skiis that would be on the long end of my size range for an incredible deal. They seem to be in great shape. I went skiing for the first time in 15 years this winter and my kid absolutely loved it so I want to get an affordable pair so I can take him more often. Any idea of those volants would be good for a beginner?

They are about 20 years old and seem to feature a lot of steel. Nothing about them would look particularly appropriate for a beginner. Something more modern with no steel would be a lot easier to learn on. You could always just hire till you really know what you want

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Rent in resort.

You’ll get skis appropriate for the skier’s early ability, body metrics and snow conditions at the time.

Welcome to snowheads, @North Dakota Newbie, snowHead Presumably you are in North Dakota and can drive to ski for short trips, in which case your own skis might make sense, but without knowing your stats, nobody could easily advise you anyway.

Do the shops where you go have "end of season" sales of ex-rental gear? You might find something suitable there and could get advice on a suitable model. How much do you weigh?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

How “incredible” is the deal? Almost free?

You can get equally incredible deals if you wait till November for the ski swaps in your local ski shop.

But the best deal is getting the right skis for a deep discount. That, you can also get by finding leftover demo skis from a shop. Hopefully you’ll get some good advice from the shop, plus services. Like adjusting the binding to fit your boots, which you would have to pay to get done if you buy that “incredible deal” from a private seller…

I assume you already own your own boots… for if not, you’re putting the cart in front of the horses!

Welcome to snowhead, the largest online ski community on that other continent! Laughing Laughing Laughing
